I speculate that several factors are involved. In many fully atheist households, religion is probably rarely mentioned at all, and the children are either left to figure out what to believe on their own or actively encouraged to do so. I seems unlikely that atheism is actively taught in many homes as a guiding principle for living. In households where only one parent is atheistic, the children would be likely to investigate the other parent's faith. It's also likely that some of the children would become affiliated with their spouses' churches in the course of their marriages for the sake of harmony even if they remain skeptical.

One thing the study notes, though, is that the ranks of the unaffiliated are swelling at unprecedented rates in spite of the low inter-generational retention rate.

I don't teach my kids about religion. I do, however teach them to think critically about the things people tell them, and not to accept anything without some proof that it is true. When we watch TV together, we analyse the commercials and talk about the manipulation involved in the sales pitches.

If that does not keep them uninterested in religion, that's fine, so long as whatever belief they adopt is adopted based on actual thought, not blind faith or manipulation.

Atheists need to teach their kids the benefits of skepticism and scientific inquiry

I teach my kids HOW to think, not WHAT to think.

I once had a store and I "worshipped" it so to speak. It became my god! This was the reason the God of the Bible took it from me. In the Bible it says that God is a jealous God and that you are to worship Him only. If you worship something else this God will throw a jealous fit and take it away from you. For example, you have a big new Harley Davidson motorcycle. You just can't stop thinking about it. You clean and polish it every day. In effect, you are worshipping it. It then becomes your god! The God of the Bible will get jealous of you and take your Harley right away from you!!! Much like He did my store. That Stupid Ass Fool up there has His little god and pet! Israel is God's god. God worships Israel (literally performs oral sex on Israel!). If God can have His god and favorite, why can't the rest of us have ours? STUPID PIG IN HEAVEN!!! FOOL GOD!!!!!!! CHILD STARVER!!!

You were in the driver's seat. God wasn't driving your busines, you were.

Failure to take responsibility is a lead indicator of bad management.

If you had any employees it would be interesting what they had to say.

Perhaps you could try again?

Best wishes for your future.

Two words: Personal Responsibility.

Stop blaming imaginary spirits for your failures and take ownership of the fact that you probably mismanaged your business.

Islam is growing in this vacuum in the UK.

My suggestion for you would pick up some throw rugs before the prices go up. Keep them safe in the closet so that when you convert you'll have something nice to say your prayers on.

Oh, and buy some that are colorful. You will want to look cool when you are talking to God.

That's really good news. I proud of you Brits for this.
Now if only you people will disestablish the Church of England and remove bishops from the House of Lords.

But is it putting religion in state hands that has unwittingly driven the CofE into the ground? It's a thought.

I've spent a lot of time in America and there have been conversations ended by a christian dropping the shutters down before they got offended. That almost never happens to me in the UK. Maybe christianity is so much more aggressive in America because of the money involved.

That's because we take our individual rights to religious freedom seriously. And we don't particularly care for liberal oppressive comments demeaning our individual faith.

And those wise Americans that have graced your presence in our own country. Close those shutters before the conversation gets out of hand and you get your little ole feelings hurt and thereby jeopardizing the business of business.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy. I doubt lots of Englishmen are converting to Islam from christianity. More likely, increased immigration by muslims and a higher birthrate among the muslim population is the explanation for the relative increase in islam in England.

It's all in how you spin a tale. Look at the success of Harry Potter, Star Wars. Kids and adults desperately want to believe in a clearly defined black and white, wrong and right world. Where the good people may have a hard time coming up but they eventually come out on top in the end.

For us, because we learned to dream while awake, anything is possible but most things are not likely. In reality people you love will betray you. Here the Hero always dies. No one in real life is as perfectly well defined and two dimensional as they are in stories in the bibles, literature, songs and on TV. Out here, people, life changes like seasons, they are a billion shades of wrong and right. Fate sometimes flips you the bird and horrible people are wealthy and in control. And you die too early or too unfulfilled even with a God.

Of course you want to believe in a good Daddy and painful place for all the ?@$#@&! who have caused others to suffer. Believing doesn't make that Daddy real or your life more worthy. It just feels better when you believe things that bring you comfort but selfish mind movies, going to your Happy Place, self induced brain chemicals doesn't feed the freezing stranger you don't know or don't care about. Real love and justice are compassionate behaviors, not temporary feelings or ideas. They aren't dependent on religious beliefs, gender or age or race. Out here, existence is dependent to everything including the selfish ungodly millionaire, adulterer you choose for as leader. God and justice can't exist in a Hell like that.

All's right in your world when you pray to a God that forgives and loves you but not the neighbor you hate. One more believer was ground up in a house blown to bits by a storm God allowed. Believers will say it was their time. That they were supposed to stay in a trailer during a tornado. It's all wrapped up in personal and mass delusion and you'll be at peace though. You never felt a thing. This is why humans created God. Because if God really existed, if justice and peace really were possible. This suffering and this need for cosmic Daddy to make it all better wouldn't be required. Maybe people would finally leave trailers during tornadoes and stop praying for Super Daddy to change all of the universe just for them.

I don't know. Religion is declining in Europe, irrespective of state interference.

"liberal oppressive comments"
You mean us asking you bible thumpers not to force your religion down our throats
To respect separation of Church and State.
To respect the rights of women
To stop encouraging the persecution of people based on sexual orientation.

There are other examples. e.g. Sweden until very recently had a state church too. I think it is a contributory factor.
