May 13, 2013 Full story: The Indianapolis Star 28

Depending on what happens at the Boy Scouts' national meeting this month, gay Scouts might soon be accepted into the venerable organization.

It's good that the US Scouts are abandoning their prejudice against gays "But all the years of good Scouting and service were erased by a single dreaded word: atheist" is a badge of prejudice they surely don't need.

The UK's Scouts are even less enlightened.
http://members.scouts.org.uk/supportresources...
Abandoning their founding ethos of inclusiveness, they demand a promise to god and a monarch. At least one group I know just 'forgets' the divisive, reactionary "Promise". What else would decent people do? The British Guides are still considering their position...
https://www.girlguiding.org.uk/default.aspx...

Still, that's just one way religion corrupts people. As the Jesuits shamelessly put it, "Give me a boy under 7...."

It's wrong to conflate religion with morality. They're entirely different.

I don't understand why people are so high on the BS of the BS.

A science club in school or computer camp on a weekend has more value than "scouting" for teaching kids something. A kids' soccer team has more value for getting them outdoors, making friends and teaching them teamwork.

Don't you have Children P? If a child or two goes to Scouts and enjoys it their friends naturally wish to join-in. In UK schools and scouts groups children sometimes find themselves segregated according to their parents' religious delusions. It has occasionally led to some ethnic tensions - all for the sake of 'religious freedoms'. No freedom from religion for the children affected of course. It's about the rights of parents and school boards. Religion's a pain in the neck in the UK. Still, it helps speed its decline.

So, you are saying that Boy Scouts and Catholics should avoid each other?

Or is it just the Catholic Priests that the Scouts ought to avoid?

Of course he doesn't have kids, he's a queer.
I don't know or care as sexual orientation is irrelevant. Gays can adopt children and are proven to make good parents.

Personally, I think gay parents may provide a more healthy environment than religious parents - especially if the religionists are very fervent, fundamentalist, or prejudiced against gays.

Not to mention Fundies all too often prefer magical spells (praying) instead of actual medicine.

And kids die as a result...

Thanks for the link! I'm watching it now, and expect it to be quite humorous.

Did you know that Boy Scouts was invented in Oklahomer? That's why it's couched in ancient, tribalism...

Penn & Teller's Bullsh7t show was quite good.

I love how they permit fools to impale themselves on their own foolishness.

It's also not lawful, now you can have a relgious agenda so long as you don't get public funds, and thus violating the first amendment, but the Boy Scouts do get public funding and they have the relgious agenda and they don't accept gays and atheists.
This is not constitutional under US law and should have been stoped years ago.

Agreed: either they give back any and all public funding, or they drop their bigoted agenda.

Can you hear yourself?

Arguably then, perhaps religionists have no business being around children. "Give me a boy under 7...." That indicates indoctrination and an immoral way to raise children.

They might end-up prejudiced against some of their fellow citizens and saying someting disgraceful..

"The Supreme Court ruled in 2000 in favour of the Boy Scouts, saying that the prohibition against openly homosexual members was part of its right as a private organisation to free association."

Fair enough. And all fair-minded people should recognise that this group posing as supporting 'wholesome virtues' places gay boy scouts in the position of putting up with second-class status and supporting a discriminatory and hypocritical group; or being divided from their friends when important (to them) activities take place and lessons are learned.

Religion is nothing but trouble these days.

There are no 'new atheists'. Non-believers like me have simply stopped being reduced to lying when trying to accommodate religious aggression and prejudices.
