From The Wacky World of True Believers:

"Tammi Estep Stabbed Husband, Said 'She Was Sent To Save The World,' Police Say"

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/14/tamm... ?

"A woman who allegedly stabbed her husband said she did it after, "Jesus and Mary told me to kill him because he is Satan's spawn!" according to a police report.

Police in South Carolina released new details from the Nov. 9 attack, which landed 36-year-old Tammi Estep behind bars and her husband in the hospital, The Smoking Gun reports.

Horry County Police deputies were called to Estep's residence at approximately 6:45 a.m. on the day of the incident. When they arrived, Estep told officers that "She was sent to save the world," according to a police report.

Estep's son told officers that his mother stabbed his father, 43, WPDE reports.

Police transported Estep to the Seacoast MecLeod Hospital, where she was medically cleared to be transferred to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Estep remains in custody with no bail set, according to the county website. She is charged with attempted murder."

Insane delusions take many forms. I have noticed that many delusional people have religious ideation as part of their system of delusion. Perhaps they just aren't creative enough to form their own delusions, so they just buy one off the rack. Religion is a ready-made delusion.

One of the unfortunate consequences of religion seems to be the tendency for adherents to identify more closely with some ideology or theory linking their group with a historical one than with other groups currently sharing the world contemporaneously.

Modern Zionists seem to identify with the Jews of history living in Palestine...

rather more than people of our time who happen to have a different religion or no religion.

Similarly, Islamists...

Even Mormons!. From..

This vision of Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ was the beginning of Joseph Smith's calling as a prophet of God. He was told that none of the churches on the earth had the fullness of truth. Over time, Joseph Smith was chosen to establish Christ's Church and restore the priesthood, or the authority to act in God's name. He was led by God to an ancient record and given the ability to translate it into English. This record is called the Book of Mormon.
Unquote.

When will people ever learn that we are all just people with different opinions and traditions? We need to care more about all who are alive today than those with various improbable 'beliefs' in the past. The big difference is they are dead and we can learn from their mistakes.

Religion = superstition
