1. It is optional, not compulsory. Some women retain their maiden names, and some couples choose to blend their names, separating them with a hyphen.does anyone know why women in secular countries have to carry the names of the families of their husbands?
This practice is disgusting and BARBARIC and it nauseates me.
2. It is just a custom, not a law. Most people follow the custom, either after having thought about their options, or just blindly following tradition. For those who decide to change their names after having considered their options, I'd say the matter is their choice, and your opinions on their choice are not relevant, any more than their opinions on your choice of lifestyle. For those who just followed tradition, how is their following tradition any different from your following your own society's customs, even if your choices are, in their eyes 'disgusting'?
