'Ask an Atheist' broadcast from church

Aug 4, 2013 Full story: Argus Leader 71

The irony was impossible to ignore, so Sam Mulvey and Rebecca Friedman, the hosts of "Ask an Atheist," remarked on it several times.

"....what the radio personalities from Tacoma, Wash., and the members of the Siouxland Freethinkers attending the show were seeking probably was something akin to at least one of the things people hope to find in organized religion a sense of belonging to a community."
Not necessarily a sense of community, but a conversation or interaction with like-minded people.

With the exception of some Unitarian and Quaker groups, religion is only open to the superstitious.

The modern world is replete with examples of sectarian conflicts reinforced by religious divides (or even rooted in them, like Zionism; Islamism; Sunni vs Shiite; etc).

Each religion also indulges in its own dogma and superstition which some people conflate with culture or values. Tribes like the RC Church have heirarchies that make scandals more or less inevitable.

If religions want to offer a sense of community, they have to drop the god swill.

Religious congregations could reject religion and confine themselves to organising charitable and social events that could be truly inclusive. It's flatly contradictory for a signboard to say 'open to all' above 'Jesus loves you'. Just put 'open to all' and drop religious baggage.

Google and science can't answer every question, but unlike religion they help.

If people want a sense of peace and release from guilt, they need to get with God who will not only adopt them into His royal and Divine family, but give them life eternal. It is a shame that many will refuse God's offer of forgiveness and reject the very things that they are trying to find. This thing is a no-brainer yet those who reject it think they are the smart ones.

Why is it, your god cannot muster up sufficient god mojo to JUST FORGIVE?

Why does your bloodthirsty deity require something to be KILLED first?

Hmmmm???

Since He created the Universe, He makes the rules. He makes those rules per what He can accept from His Creation. He is the Holy One, the Creator, not man.

You are posting from "earth, Texas." That is the whole problem. You are Earthly and you stand condemned. You need forgiveness from Jesus Christ. I won't bother telling you anymore for the moment. If God ever takes pity on you, you will want to know more about Him.

Not from where I sit, he ain't holy.

Might DOES NOT make right.

A mere mortal HUMAN can easily forgive-- without something being MURDERED FIRST.

Your god?

Not so much...

I know more than sufficient about your terrorist-god.

In fact? What I know is too much-- your god is a monster.

The god you claim as creator of a universe is the same god who was beaten by the iron chariot. Wheels and a horse, defeat a god, and you want all of mankind to fall before this total wuss regional Asian myth-god? I don't think so.

Earth, Texas is the problem is it? I suppose you are posting from the pearly gates, several feet above where the legendary "Tower of Babel" once stood? Are you high enough away from earth itself to not be bothered with air traffic, or that earthly condemnation crap?

Did you know mankind moved heaven? In the days of olde,(some 2000 years ago), heaven was just out of reach of a manmade structure. It was close enough the buybull god damned near sh(a)t himself when man begin to build.

Later mankind took to the air and pushed the god further away, man then conquered space and the god evaporated back into what he had always been, innuendo, words, a great nothingness wielded by those who would leach their sustenance from the simple, the fearful and the poor.

Here in Earth, we don't eat our children, and you, or no other force can scare us into doing so. Now you can trot out your silly little hemorrhoid collecting god-myth, and hollar "Boo" at us, all you want.

Your buybull god boils down to nothing more than silly words and fear from people like you, who will not look head on at what you are trying to push onto others. You buybull god would make parents eat their children ... that is pure witch doctor/priest/spell caster scare tactics. Nothing more.

BTW: I am a woman empowered, and I pity your silly penis worshipping god, it must be embarrassing to be so small that an imperfect penis and testicles on a worshipper, could diminish his godliness or a simple iron chariot could bring on his defeat.

Poor pitiful little god

Fantasy role-playing about defeating a god of a video game isn't beating God in reality. That is what you are doing, right? Your fantasy life is definitely showing. Trying to belittle the God who created all of Creation from nothing is quite useless. You may object to God and you may think yourself as too wise to believe in God does nothing for you except insure you are on a collision course with your final destination. That isn't something about which you should rejoice.

Mankind has always had a problem believing themselves as superior to God. A sense of superiority and pride has been man's downfall since being booted from Eden.

Her post was 100% accurate according to that dust-covered bible you never bother to read.

Does.

No Doofus, I have no stake in Arab mythology, not even as a game. This isn't my story. It was your buybull god who was beaten by the iron chariot. Why don't you know this already? Read your bible.

My existence is what propels me to my final destination, that I live and breathe advances me towards death. You know, that end that all of life will come to. Nothingness, though maybe as memory or two for awhile, and then oblivion. After my death, I have planned for the donation of my organs and skin to others, so my own anonymous legend will last just a wee bit longer.

As long as you are setting yourself up as an expert on the Holy Bible, you should be able to quote the Chapters and Verses for your assertions. Let's see if you can do that, shall we?

I made the same offer to your running buddy. Give us the Chapters and Verses for your comments regarding the Holy Bible. I can imagine your responses now back-pedaling on your comments.

I'm not here to educate you, nor to correct your near-total lack of bible education.

Sadly, you are too cowardly to use Google and an on-line bible to see if I'm right or not.
