When the Pastor Becomes an Atheist

Jun 15, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Joe McKeever

All Jerry did was renounce his Christian faith--he'd been pastor of the First Community Church there--and become an apostle for atheism.

Any money (or in your case the taxpayers money coz atheists live off the public either by government grants or welfare) says he's a fudge packer but I suppose that is a source of pride for you as you are obviously a carpet chewer thru no choice of your own. I mean what sort of man would be low enough to lay you (but to lay you out by a bunch of 5s would be ok) this is the reason you are so bitter at life and especially God. Don't blame him because you have ugly parents.

Imitation is the highest form of flattery, sadly you did not imitate my linguistic patterns well. For one thing, I do not use poor looking "abbreviated" words with such horrible misspellings, I have too much vanity for such trivialities. Another problem is that your punctuation is too way too rigid for my syntax, I like to use a ton of commas, and some ellipses for flavor once in a while, but rarely parenthesize outside of mathematical formulas. Also, I type out simple numbers, like five, instead of using the symbols, it's more elegant for the reader. Then you have forgotten my rather tedious use of long and flavorful words when unnecessary to boost my ego a bit. Perhaps your minuscule brain can handle imitating my nickname, but the rest seems way beyond your simplistic and juvenile comprehensions.

When the pastor becomes an atheist,he reveals himself to be what he REALLY was all along: A child of the devil.

But according to your faith we are all children of god, do you see a contradiction here? If not it is time for you to wakeup.

I simply note that his life seems quite badly affected. "Jerry Dewitt says he is the most disliked person in DeRidder, Louisiana"
What was he supposed to do, live a lie?

And
"..he's about to lose his home because he can't meet the mortgage payments, and his marriage is in trouble. He's paying a steep price for being true to his convictions, he feels."
Naturally he lost the stipend from his religion and his wife may be disappointed in his current 'non-belief'.

However, from the comments above from Mexico and Little Rock, as well as the tone of the article, one gets the impression that he is feeling excluded from the community and some people have lost much respect for him. I thought that belief wasn't compulsory and that religion was about love and helping one's fellow man?

Shouldn't religion be something people are persuaded by? It shouldn't be something demanded of anyone, even those in leadership positions.

Perhaps the less dogmatic (and less hypocritical)will offer him some support. I wonder what he will do for a living?

I often wonder what people in their 30s or older do when they wake up to reality. It might be difficult to be open, honest and go to the jobcenter and start again.

I suspect there are many time-servers hoping to continue to retirement. It's a pity their congregations cannot at least keep them as friends and part of their community, atheist, religous or not. That seems the failure and the sad part.

There are so many pastors & politicians living a lie today it's a total sham, these prople know that god is a myth but keep up the pretence for the paycheck, the god myth lost it's power in the 60's and is on a terminal decline now, it will one day be laughed at like the flat earth and other silly once beliefs

Did you know your god might make you eat your children? It's in the bible, read it, and then come back and tell us what a great god he is. He is as ugly as you are, and that is ugly.

Wait, so Bill Gates is on welfare? Wow, who'd have thought it considering him owning Microsoft and donating billions to charities and local welfare organizations. You should be careful with over generalizations, it's not a wise mistake to make without something to back it up.

Thank you very much, I pride myself on being skilled at trolling trolls, it's a hobby of mine. ;) I am also not afraid to admit my own real faults, which makes it ever so much more fun.

The Clergy Project has gained 300 plus members in the past 17 months proving that even in the mindless temples of nonsense and superstition one cannot escape from truth and reason.

The decent and respectable clergy tend to be atheists who see their role as being a way to ground the followers in reality, so it's not surprising at all actually. They have been injecting sanity into the sheep, and the phenomenon is doing a lot of good in places like Europe and the UK, where religious people are shedding the dogma and instead becoming a social club more than the cults they once were.

We are even beginning to see this happen in the US, though it's a much slower process due to the size of this country. This is the era of reason, next will be the era of sanity.
