If you have real faith.
Jesus also tells us to pray for Gods will be done.
Matthew 21:22
English Standard Version (ESV)
22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”
Jesus himself makes promises about how prayer is supposed to work:

Matthew 21:21 - "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

Mark 11:24 - "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

John 14:12-14 - "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it."

All lies.

The six million Jews who died with unanswered prayers and the many millions that died from AIDS stand as testament that your god doesn't answer prayers.

Have you ever had a prayer answered? If so, why do you think God answered you but let so many other people die?

It does not fail. He will wind up with the holiest souls in heaven with him and the rest he throughs out. And he gave this choice to each and every one of us.
So to get this small umber of souls he puts humanity through intense hardship and suffering?

Like I said - he/she/it is a sadistic monster.

Wrong.
In Genesis 1: 27, it is written that when God created man in His own image, He created them male and female.
Beware of what you think of God.
He is a perfect God and cannot be around sin.
God throws Lucifer out of heaven and one third of the angles with him. Lucifer the top dog of angles the one God loved most damned to hell.
You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God”(Exodus 20)
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave itto the wrath of God, for it is written,“Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
God will punish those who he deems unworthy of heaven.
Your god is perfect yet he is also jealous?

How can a perfect being be jealous of anything? Please share with is just what it is that your god is jealous of.

Your god cannot be around sin?

You do realise that you are putting limits on what your god can/can't do? If he can't be around sin then he's not omnipotent.

Anyway, perhaps you'd better read Job. In particular, the bit where your god calls the devil himself to heaven and thereby demonstrating that he can indeed, be around sin.

Looks like I know the Bible better than you.

It's not just a matter of believing it's bullshit, I can prove it, and I have many times.
not sure what the it is, that you refer to. please refer us to places where you prove things, rather than just using vulgar terms. I am not hostile to you, but I am sure you are smarter than your comments indicate. it seems a waste when you are gross, and do not really prove what you claim you have proven, so far as I can see. give us a link, please, to your proofs.(you already know I am an agnostic atheist and do not think everything can be proven)

I think we may agree on several things. not sure what we disagree on. I am an agnostic atheist, and think the Biblical God is an evil monster unworthy of worship. have you read the great play jb by archibald macleish?

Hmmm, it seems even the good knew Lucifer wasn't a sinner. He did tell the truth in the garden, while the god did the lying

So the god was a hermaphrodite, who really, really didn't like his female side?

Yet another case of atheists having to tell christians what is really in that big doorstop of a book they all love, but never read. If there were a god, who already had things planned out, prayer would be futile, as said god would just carry on with his plan, without needing permission in the form of prayers from puny humans. If there is no god, prayer is self-evidently futile. Prayer would only be efficacious in the case of a god who has no plan, who is, instead, guided by some sort of divine Gallup poll, where the outcome that gets the most prayers wins. As I understand theist claims about the nature of god, this is not the typical understanding of the nature of their deity. The real question is why a deity who has a comprehensive plan in place would then solicit prayers for divine favors, having no intention to deviate from his plans regardless of any such requests.

You don't even realize that the verse you quote does not support the point you make, but contradicts it. "Whatever you ask in prayer" =/= " pray for god to do whatever he was going to do anyway" If he is going to do it anyway, what use is the prayer?

Hi

I'm aware of JB but it's not one I've read. I'll give it a go,

I can't say for sure that there isn't a god but I do think it's exceedingly unlikely that one exists.

It's a good question and one that Christians haven't factored in to their mindset.

But wait that's right a lot of that book has already come to pass making it accurate.
This is scripture by your logic:

Yesterday I ate a salad for lunch.

I am now your profit because I predicted that. Sheesh, you are just incapable of even seeing how stupid your book is.
