Atheism+: the new New Atheists

Aug 23, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: New Statesman

This new movement has an energy that makes it hard to ignore.

Let me introduce you to Atheism+, the nascent movement that might be the most exciting thing to hit the world of unbelief since Richard Dawkins teamed up with Christopher Hitchens to tell the world that God was a Delusion and, worse than that, Not Great.

Less than a week old in its current form, Atheism+ is the brainchild of Jen McCreight, a Seattle-based biology postgrad and blogger at the secularist Freethought network. She has called for a "new wave" of atheism on that "cares about how religion affects everyone and that applies skepticism to everything, including social issues like sexism, racism, politics, poverty, and crime."

Sounds cool! You rock that is something missing from many rpg games today.

Eventually, one step at a time this time. This is the first program I have ever written that utilizes 3D rendering, so I needed some practice at 3D graphics before I could even bother with the code. But the game concept is one that I actually began working on several years ago, and one that turned a ton of heads, even Amazon is paying attention to me because of announcing it, they didn't care about me before, and I have a slew of people wanting the demo as soon as I get that done. Really the demo is actually the beta, I just want to catch all the glitches before people get the full game so they can play it through without problems and massive patches.
It's a cyberpunk hacking RPG, focusing mostly on the actions of the players. The first version will be a single player with a storyline, then I will, hopefully after I get the surgery I need I will have the funds for it, launch the online game server. Which is the biggest selling point for most people interested. I have a knack for network game development, well, pretty much any networking system actually. I use to have Java chats everywhere, before people went hog-wild for Flash. However, due to focusing mostly on chat systems and database applets, I didn't keep up in the graphics and had to learn it all for this project.
Success or failure will not depend on stats like most RPGs, but instead on the decisions of the player, how they set up their simulated computer systems and such, as well as which avatars they choose for which task, and a slew of other aspects. Bringing strategy back into computer games.

Thanks. I'm like the creator of the Final Fantasy series, tired of it all being the same game with different wrapping.

Actually what with all the rage with Mmorpgs it surprises me so few have tried a turn based game like the old final fantasy games with better graphics. Atlantica online tried it but that game was just kind of bland. I bet if someone made a nice open world well thought out turn based mmo with a solid story, rich graphics music and sound effects they would make a mint.

Of the FF series, my faves were from 1-6 and 12, the others sort of blech to me. 7 was not a great game, but the graphics engine was revolutionary for that time period, using 3D on top of pre-rendered movies was genius. Of course that became standard after that game, so most people don't even recall a time before it.

well, turn based games are less dynamic, and can't work well on networked games with more than a few players. MMORPGs rely on dynamic game worlds, thus the ATB tends to be the most used method of interaction in such games. ATB has one flaw, it makes many games feel like button punching games, and a lot of RPG fans don't like FPSs at all. So the trick of the matter that has yet to be addressed is a method of making the ATB system appear less FPS and more strategy. In other words, make the ATB feel like a turn based.

Hackers' Haven will, hopefully, accomplish this by making the configuration of the cyber-deck the key to success, in place of numbers and such. Such as choosing an avatar that will be capable of handling the system, while also being capable of "fitting" through pathways. Running specific programs that will protect the avatar while also offering some support in actions, such as decryption and search patterns.

Then there's the whole "write your own program" system that I'm ironing out, which will allow players to literally create their own cyberdeck programs without just allocating "points" or some other tedious method. Still ironing out the method for that though. The demo won't include that aspect because I seriously have a lot of work to do on it before it can be incorporated into the system.

The demo will also only have two avatars for players, while the full game will have at least 6. Avatars will be knock offs from other games, most of them, to appeal to the popular icons. Gotta make something familiar.

Maybe you should make a game based around yourself (Why not? Everything else you talk about is...).
So the game would be a remake of Ms. Pacman, only it would be called Ms. Coalburner. So you would have your rotten apple face on a Pacman and you would be chasing /Vigger bucks around a maze made of section 8 housing.
Instead of eating dots you would be eating crack rocks... without paying which is why the LeShawns chase you. But you would be chasing them when instead of eating a big dot, you eat a KFC bucket and chase them. When you catch them you then blow their sausages because you suck, I mean you really do suck.
And I mean you suck!

Ff8 cracked me up what with squall the master of the ellipsis, seifer going on about one day he'll tell you about his romantic dream wtf! Selfie who while is supposed to be 19 acts like she is 4 and how can we forget Zell who has the biggest man crush in video game history. Need I start on the card game ff8 had that almost every other rpg since has had to squeeze in the game!!?? Ff8 should be damned to rpg hell for introducing that.

The only decently written and way Hawt character quistis is so out of place I felt sorry for her even having to be in the game. Ff7 had cloud with his 7 foot long buster sword but as you said the graphics were good for the time and the story was fair.

For me I look for a good interface and right controls. So many online games have terrible controls. I want a solid game that I can level up and pwn in someone's face in pvp and make them cry.

You must be a Christain, did Jesus teach you that, or did he just show you? Was it kneel down or bend over, teaching?

Seriously, the game should be about you. "You" did come up with the concept. You know you could be chasing Jesus's little black sausage, and at different levels, maybe Mohamed and Jehovah's big one's too. Prove to your Jesus, that you did actually learn something from his teachings.

Maybe you can even put in a cheat code that will allow the holy spook, to jump in there and help you catch those sausages.

I'd skip the chicken, unless you turn them into crosses that you and your gods can be impaled upon. Game Over!

Ah, Tetra Master, that is one of my favorite aspects of FF8 and 9. Actually, it's the only reason I play 8 and 9. lol Of all the mini-games in the FF series it was the best one. I was considering making an online version of it someday, in an applet with multiplayer format. Just never got around to it.

Triple triad actually lol! Ff8 I didn't bother but ff9 you have to beat it to get the rare weapons. They actually have free versions of it online.

The sucky part about FF is that characters all look like girls. Asian anime has too much influence in the games.
