Militant Atheism? One can certainly see the conundrum.

There are 10 comments on the www.examiner.com story from Jul 2, 2010, titled Militant Atheism? One can certainly see the conundrum.. In it, www.examiner.com reports that:

When put into the correct context, holding no religious beliefs and speaking out against the inanity they can produce is anything but militant. Atheists are not bombing churches in order to stop you from attending. Nonbelievers are not holding local clerics hostage, demanding for their atheist brethren to be released from prison. Those who doubt the validity of religion most certainly are not stockpiling food and weapons for the nigh end times.

Well, there's a great cartoon graphic with this article, but it doesn't seem to always show up in Topix. Must be a bug in the system.

am I reading that correctly?

most Americans would approve of their adult child marrying a gay or lesbian person

before they'd approve of them marrying a gender appropriate atheist?

Yes, they even would prefer a muslim over an atheist; this has been confirmed in repeated polls.

funny, my partner's rabbie was more concerned that I might have been Lutheran more than that I was a woman.

athiest was a bit of a relief for him, because most Jews are agnostic, so he thought he could work with athiesm

he never got the chance, because the women in the temple were far more alarmed about the "woman" part. so we never went

Militant atheists are dangerous because they're not intelligent or honest.

An intelligent 'atheist' would reason that he cannot state with 100 percent absolute certainty that there is no God or gods to be found anywhere in this universe. This statement aligns with scientists who admit that we know probably less than 1 percent of everything that exists in the universe.

A militant atheist is more like an angry person suffering from a mental deficit who makes a claim without sufficient evidence to support his statement and then gets angry at anyone who disputes or questions him about it. Angry people are dangerous and militant atheists are angry people.

The phrase "militant atheism" is a made up term used to falsely accuse atheists of the very things that religious nuts do.

It's as ludicrous as the Ku Klux Klowns trying to claim that all black men are "rapists of white women" when it is the accuser who is so often guilty of the accusation. That comparison is all the more apt considering that the Ku Klux Klowns and those who use the phony term "militant atheism" share the same religion, philosophy, and attitude towards non-whites.

That's pretty smug coming from you! I haven't read one honest or intelligent post from you yet!

>"An intelligent 'atheist' would reason that he cannot state with 100 percent absolute certainty that there is no God or gods to be found anywhere in this universe."

Are you really THAT stupid? I can't state with 100% absolute certainty that there are not giant pink teddy bears roaming the universe every night drinking blood as I sleep either. But that doesn't mean I should or would admit the possibility.

However, NO intelligent and/or rational human being would believe the utter nonsense that a giant Caucasian man in the sky with a long white beard is watching them 24/7, just waiting for them to mess up so he can send them to hell for eternity, either. It takes a religious person to buy that crock.

>"This statement aligns with scientists who admit that we know probably less than 1 percent of everything that exists in the universe."

That is probably a very high estimate. Are you claiming to know more? If you are so wise, why do you require an invisible, imaginary playmate to get through life?

>"A militant atheist is more like an angry person suffering from a mental deficit who makes a claim without sufficient evidence to support his statement and then gets angry at anyone who disputes or questions him about it."

An atheist must have hurt your sensitive little christian feelings at one time, didn't they? How sad.

Just because someone disagrees with you about your imaginary friend, does not make they angry. In fact, you will likely find that they are actually laughing at you, amazed that anyone could keep a straight face while claiming to believe such foolish bunk.

>"Angry people are dangerous and militant atheists are angry people."

So ALL militant atheists are angry? What are they angry about? It certainly couldn't be anything about the ridiculous god you believe in. After all, it is an ongoing source of endless amusement for every atheist, militant or not.

If anyone is angry it is your typical christian. Being a life-long slave to an evil and angry (not to mention imaginary and silly) god, must be a horrible way to live. Believing this character is up in the sky watching your every move, every second of every day is an indication of why so many christians are borderline schizophrenic and generally very unhappy with life (in spite of the false front they often try to put on). But can you blame them for feeling lost and in such constant misery?

you'd have to be intellectually honest about what an atheist is before you could accurately complete that statement

Thanks for demonstrating that you've managed to confuse "strong atheism" with "militant atheism" (two very different things).
