If god is an all knowing, all powerful and perfect entity then there would be no reason to create anything outside itself.
Humans would and could not contribute anything to god because god is already perfect.
There for human life in the face of god is pointless so why create it?
A perfect entity would not create human life without purpose because that would be an imperfect act and if god is not perfect it is not god at all.

The very fact that human life exists is proof that there is no all powerfull, all knowing perfect god.

Interesting point.

And would such a perfect, all-knowing, all-powerful being even need the worship of imperfect humans? A need that seems insatiable?

Yes, it would be like owning an ant farm as a kid and worrying if the ants loved you. Why would an all powerful being care at all whether something as insignificant in the vast universe as a colony of beings on one of the billions of planets loved the all powerful being sufficiently? Of course, the desert religions were thought up by people who had very little idea of the vastnes of the universe. Their idea of the whole of the universe was quite small. They pictured the earth as flat, supporting a flat sky with all the stars fixed in the 'firmament' and small and close, not huge but distant. Such a tiny universe means a 'god' that is right here. The universe of science with its galaxies and tremendous, almost unimaginable distances is no place for such a personal god.

The ant farm is an excellent analogy. Your comments on the perceptions of the desert regions are spot on, too. That would probably fit for all people who lived before we had knowledge of the vastness of the Universe. They probably thought the solar system was just about all there was, so as you say, God was very close and intimate to the people of Earth.
