...and this points out that the line is drawn at the point where prayers disturb others, both in ad out of school. A believer can pray aloud in public at the same level that anyone can make any other kind of noise in the same place. the student in BlackSheep's post would have been treated the same for disturbing his classes with any kind of speech--the issue wasn't what he was saying but the fact that he was disrupting the educational process. I suspect that the same behavior would have had the same result in most religious schools as well.
Exactly! Anyone can pray to anyone they like, at anytime! Just do as Jesus said and pray in appropriate places and times, so not to infringe on the rights of others.

Most people are fast to demand their rights; no matter how many people they have to infringe upon to get them.

19E? That's 19 Echo correct?
In writing, it is 19E. When speaking, it is, 19 Echo. Correct. My DD214 states that I was an 19E.

My MOS was 1836 Transportation company in the US Army. My oldest son is in the National Guard and just finished his basics at Fort Jackson at age 17. Now he is finishing his senior year and will go to Missouri for his 7 week training and college right after. Well, I have a lot of respect for you sir!

<quoted text>You are welcome. And you sure do skirt around the questions that are asked of you.

Have you been denied the right to pray? Has anyone you know been denied the right to pray? Do you feel as if someone is trying to deny you the right to pray?
Not at all. Just saying that a moment of silence and youth for Christ is acceptable. It doesn't force anyone to pray.

Of course this is an opinion and you know that. You will keep using that argument because that's what you do. On not here to battle you but to enlighten you that I agree with prayer in school since we are the majority of tax payers. Sorry about that but it's not right that atheists control what we believe.
No, it is not control over what you believe. You certainly have the right to pray. Nobody doubts that or challenges that.

What you do *not* have is the right to have the government (through the school) endorse your particular religious viewpoint, or, in fact, to endorse any religious viewpoint. So you do not get to have a prayer as part of anything that could be understood as a sanction by the school of a particular viewpoint.

If you want to pray, there are many places where you can do that. If you want to pray at school, you can even do that. But you cannot have the school sanction that prayer nor have it be part of a school event (especially a mandatory one).

let me put it this way: you do not get to do anything at a government run ceremony that you would not allow a Moslem or a Satanist to do.

Ok, a moment of silence right after the pledge is done in the class room. It's not a led prayer it's that of silence. Youth for Christ is an organization that meet during lunch in the library which is also legal. Nobody is forced to go.

So, you are saying that, it is your opinion that these things can happen on school grounds.

I have no problem with you having such an opinion.

I have no problem with every group having a lunch time meeting. Teachers/faculty cannot be involved in the meeting, they are just there as chaperones.

I am leaving for a party soon and I was thinking of a few things that I thought were germane to the conversation.

One, Thank you for your service to our country! I should have said that right off.

Two, I am not so sure that christians are the bulk of the tax paying public. Maybe percentage wise, but maybe not dollars wise. If Mitt Romney is correct, and 47% do not pay any taxes, who are those 47%? 85% of the 47% must be christians! It certainly cannot be us Atheists!

Of the people who pay the most money in taxes, are they christians? Bill Gate, for example, paid more in one year than I will ever pay! Add Warren Buffett, and a few others, and your numbers may not be as high as you think.

And lastly, if it is happening, you can bet your bottom dollar that it will end soon. There are so many groups going after such happenings, that it will not be long. Can the school system support the legal battle?

It's not during class time so I don't think anything will be done about it. Have a good time at your party!

The Science Guy will end up burning in hell along with all the other pagans and then they'll have some real global warming to report on.

You didn't have anything to say about this?

"Two, I am not so sure that christians are the bulk of the tax paying public. Maybe percentage wise, but maybe not dollars wise. If Mitt Romney is correct, and 47% do not pay any taxes, who are those 47%? 85% of the 47% must be christians! It certainly cannot be us Atheists!

If public school teachers are involved, I am sure there will be a court case in the near future.
