Well, at least the governor is a fair person ... but ... what "atheist books?" Seriously. About the only thing we could place there would be actual science books, maybe, but that's still not atheism, since we have no dogma, no mythology, we have nothing to put into such books.

Exactly. So arguably, some might now perceive there as being two books relating to religion or god(s) instead of one.

I agree with you that a good science book or one on modern philosophy (both of which one might describe as 'humanist' or 'non-religious') would be better.

There is a UK Channel4 which has a 5-minute slot "Thought for the Day",(or some such title). BBC Radio has one too, but the BBC one excludes the non-religious from such comments. When the Channel4 one broadcasts an "atheist comment" they always seem to find one of the least articulate, obscure and least intellectual atheists I've ever seen in my life. So I wonder if this atheist book will be similarly chosen - apparently to suggest atheists are 'just the same' or 'as bad'?

As I said, it's great that the governor was willing to compromise, it's such a rare thing in the US for anyone in politics to compromise we should be grateful and tell him that he's good for that, but without a doctrine, we have no way to actually utilize it as stated, and it would be a much better display of our general commitment to learning to place something scientific there. No need to advertise atheism, really, people will eventually become atheists if they are more educated.

When you become brave enough to prove your god instead of lying about atheists and scientists we are all ears.
