Atheism to Defeat Religion by 2038

Apr 25, 2012 Full story: Psychology Today 23,072

My blog posts on religion have attracted a lot of controversy. Religious people are annoyed by my claim that belief in God will go the way of horse transportation, and for much the same reason, specifically an improved standard of living.

Religion is truly messed up that part of the world. I hope they get an age of reason soon.

You raise several excellent points, most of which I agree with.
The only exception is the educational funding one-- I'm a strict believer in the more money you pump into education, the better off society is in the long term.
Even border-line educational systems, which are for-profit, and graduate less than half-- that means that nearly half DO graduate better educated than when they went in.
I think that education is the key to a great many of societies' ills-- people who are educated tend to choose more wisely when having babies, they tend to choose more wisely in their career paths, they tend to vote more progressive, they tend to either be not very religious or if they are, it's progressive religion.
The more people we get educated, the less they will submit to lies and bamboozling from politicians.
Notice the shift most recently to marriage equality: the message was changed to one of "marriage equality"-- very clever, and only someone educated in the process would have thought of it (doesn't have to be formal education).
But this new "marriage equality" meme is rapidly pushing through state legislation across the world.
I see education as the only long-term solution to the whole mess.
I'm willing to put up with a few profit-makers along the way-- so long as what they are teaching follows reasonable information.
You Forget Profit Comes from war in capitalism. Education? Yes for the elite. I lived in a Country (Up to 1990) where education had a high esteem!

<quoted text> that sounds like a mostly (I would not use the word all, but prefer to accuse "most")sensible statement. It appears others are attacking your religious views. I can be friendly to your economic bias and not your bias on your religion, but have trouble seeing how the two link. Lots of socalled religious nuts are apologists for greed. They believe in a success religion, that those who get rich deserve to be rich (and by inference, the poor deserve to be poor and we do not need to help them, or even provide opportunities for them to be better able to help themselves). Can you explain a bit how your religious view and view on capitalism intersect? I am not prepared to write you off as a rightwinger if you are not rightwing on economics.
First of all I am Atheist for approximately 50 years or so. Religions are all more or less fakes, lies or just Errors. Quite short, I am a socialist aiming for communism! In the nuclear Age I fear mankind will not survive.

<quoted text> OK, I found this quote which I agree with. somehow I got the impression that someone was attacking you for being religious - apparently I misread or misunderstood, or someone else did.
There is a big division however, in some religious denominations, with the preponderance being on the side of the rich and powerful, and a small minority being genuinely for the poor. But there is a liberation theology element here and there that I do respect - some Catholic priests, for example - one can tell them because of their being in jail or being reprimanded by exPope Ratty. Then there are the faux-type, like the present Pope and Mother Teresa, who like being kind to the poor, as seemingly sweet natured wannabe saints, while really agreeing that the poor are always with us, instead of demanding social and economic reforms.
In the nuclear Age religions at all is IMHO of minor importance any more. There is the danger of the end of human race. Accidents in one or more of the 500 AKWs or so can occur our Inferno in an atomar incidence.

Atheist do not want theists on "Their" threads LOL
Politically this is one of the reasons people generally do not vote for atheists.
Atheists love their own views but intolerant of other views.

Ask Obama WHY he sanctioned the Killing Of Osama?
I would, if I was close enough-- I don't think what he did was right.

But. I'm not the one in charge of Obama's life-- HE is-- it was HIS decision. One I do not agree with, but then again, I was not there, and I did not have all the facts that HE had.

On the other hand? If ANYONE deserved killing? Osama was one of those who did. But he was a VICTIM of your evil Islam-- as much a victim as any girl who gets ACID in the face is..

... your horrid religion is one of VIOLENCE.

You ought to UNDERSTAND President Obama's decision VERY WELL--

--- IT IS ONE YOU WOULD HAVE DONE, IF OSAMA WAS NOT ONE OF YOUR TRIBE!

You Islamic TERRORISTS have been MURDERING EACH OTHER FOR CENTURIES.

Sheesh, but you are a hypocrite.

Also agree.

They all have made their mistakes.

The differences, are what the consequences of the various mistakes are, and how those consequences have played out.

I think Bush2's mistakes were of the worst, as compared to all the rest-- he is personally responsible for all the deaths in two unwinnable wars.

He SHOULD have taken a page from his Dad's playbook-- and pulled OUT of Afghanistan just as soon as the Taliban was destroyed.

And he NEVER should have invaded Iraq.

All the dead people are a tribute to Bush's arrogance.

Perhaps you might try to set us a higher standard yourself, Lincoln?

Perhaps some non-believers sink to the level of leading US religionists...

Maybe 43% of USAmericans might withhold their vote for a US politician due to bigotry towards non-believers...

I cannot criticize your analysis here--

-- a modern example is Dick Cheney's illegal Iraq invasion-- his NO-BID contracts to Halliburton has made Cheney a multi-millionare...

...!!!

Yes-- it is clear that Cheney was the architect behind that needless invasion, in order to make himself even richer.

There are other ReThugs who also cashed-in on that fiasco.

Who-- VOTED AGAINST VET BENEFITS TOO!(I'm looking at YOU Boner)

though I made my point I will elaborate. Actually, while I will admit that the US does act like a bully in many instances, most of our ware were either internal or started by someone else, most, not all. You're ISP says you're in Germany, so really, you are just calling the kettle black here.
