My blog posts on religion have attracted a lot of controversy. Religious people are annoyed by my claim that belief in God will go the way of horse transportation, and for much the same reason, specifically an improved standard of living.

I said nothing about absolutes. I said the Ten Commandments have influenced our laws as well as our culture.
I'd be a liar if I said that Christianity hasn't influenced Europe's and thus America's identity.

However, let's not forget that social and intellectual forces opposed to organised religion have also influenced our culture.

Still, I'm pleased to see that you don't accept the Ten Commandments as absolute rules.

Blow me.

That was going to be my response, but then I decided to soften it a little:

God bless you.

Lame attempts at comedy won't disquise the fact that science doesn't have an answer.
Does your religion have an answer for Ghwpqxlyop?

My guess is, it doesn't.

No I admit I didn't, because I was searching on "Thinking".
Yours is a great post. The 3 stages of so many fundie posts:
1. Attempt (but fail) to destabilise the scientific method without admitting you're on a religious crusade.
2. Say we all need their religion. Fail again.
3. F**k off crying and threatening damnation.

I'll have a go at answering that one.

No, I certainly wouldn't - because, it would most likely prove to be fatal.

There - that's my honest answer.

Your turn now....

What sock gremlins have to do with this?
If someone says "there is no God", it's an affirmation, it's taking a position on the existence of God (negative in this case).
The person who says "there is no God" believes in what he says; therefore atheism is a belief.
Even atheism have faith in their beliefs.
Atheism is increasingly seen as a faith by outsiders.
The fact that (some) atheists also try to convince others of their beliefs, to convert them to their faith don't make them different from religious missionaries.
Agnosticism isn't a belief or a faith; it is just an intellectual position. Agnosticism is the recognition that one is in doubt and cannot be conviced one way or the other about the existence of God.
To me, as an atheist (for 70 years or so) it is god non existent. The hole religious myths are at best fairy tales. Religious leaders are mostly fakers or worse. Uneducated masses are a pity or commited to crimes for milleniums.

There are and were many thousands of gods, not even one of them has ever been real! Funny garbage nothing else!
