To me?

That is too cool-- I celebrate such things, myself.

The more the original men-dominated Genuine Catholic Church™ is fractured, divided, the less power it has over the world's affairs.

And that can >>only<< be positive.

Imagine a catholic church, wide-spread, without the central authority (and power-base) of Vatican city?

Imagine all the riches of vatican city stripped away, and sold off to help alleviate the poor, the hungry, the sick?

Turn the physical structures into tourist vistas, with tours of the deepest and darkest dungeons, where I have no doubts at all, people are even now languishing in torment.

Put all their ugly history, records, etc, onto the internet, as a warning to all of humanity, of the evils of centralized religion.

The world would be a better place-- according to your story, more than 70% of the US Catholics are in favor of lifting the ban on contraceptives, and lifting the ban on women priests.

I suspect a high number would allow gay priests (of either gender) as well--if given a choice.

And why not?

Can a straight male, >>really<< understand the needs of a gay woman? I think not...

Progress.
