Gee, I think I sent off a donation to some organization when both the first major tsunami struck in the Indonesia area and killed so many people in many countries, and also when New Orleans got flooded.<quoted text>
Ahh so you are saying that the American Red cross, the UNCF and Oxfam never helped out or are you simply lying again?
Or perhaps your are saying that ALL the local atheist organisations just turned their backs. Organisations like Foundation Beyond Belief who raised over $45,000 for victim aid. FreeOK atheist group helped families who needed wreckage removed. And many more
Local atheist groups such as the Oklahoma Atheists, Atheist Community of Tulsa, the Lawton Area Secular Society, Norman Naturalism Group, and the Oklahoma State Secular Organization have organised volunteers, resources, and blood drives.
What it comes down to is the fact that you are repeating a christian lie, the fact that it is a christian lie makes no difference to the fact that is juts a lie. You think that attempting to bolster your religion with lies is the way to go? no wonder the christina church is in decline.
Lying for your god is a worse offence in the eyes of your god than any other.
Christians say that Satan is the father of lies, tell me why yopu worsip your god satan by lying?
I seem to remember that the highly religious US had to be shamed in to offering aid to the victims of the 2004 tsunami.
That was compulsive giving, as I realized afterwards that a country, like the USA, does not need donations from abroad to look after the plight of their own citizens.
I recall also one of the charitable agencies at the time lamenting that people will donate so much during a major event, such as the tsunami, but the ongoing tragedies in the world keep happening, and they don't get near as much help towards those.
We tend to be controlled by emotion rather than reason. It is much more upsetting at the time to hear that several hundred thousand people have died due to one event, while ignoring that in the same year several million people have starved to death in countries that suffer corrupt governments, which when there is a drought or a flood, do not help their own people.
I am not suggesting, though, that we stop helping in times of crisis, but just to be wiser about how our donations are being used, and how they go to the most benefit of all.
