In America, atheists are still in the closet

So do many other interest and identity groups. Complaint is our political lingua franca: it's what Occupiers, Tea Partiers, Wall Street titans, religious and irreligious people share.

We have over 10 times the volume of people. But yes it would be nice
they pay a monthly premium and huge taxes 40% for it.
I'd like an optional, tiered public healthcare system.

Replace the private investors with public investors, and you remove the conflicts of interest. Private insurance is there to make money, not make people healthy. I just don't see healthcare as the place to squeeze people.

<quoted text>You're wrong again. Most companies, when downsizing and laying people off, try to lay off some of the higher paid people who have been there the longest and keep those who are at or near minimum wage and a few supervisors. That's the only thing that makes economic sense and keeps companies from going under.
I think you're telling tales.
I haven't worked for "most companies" and therefore my statements are drawn from personal experience with the few (several) that had reason to lay people off. Of course, I've only worked in technical capacities. Bean counters and wannabe execs are probably a dime-a-dozen.

Of course, Romney's plan is to tax himself at 0.83 percent.

That is ZERO.83 percent, not quite one percent.
While the middle class pays 28 percent.

And we still wait for you to identify ONE tax loophole.

One.

I disagree with barefoot on most things, not because he's entirely wrong, but in the way he interprets things. I think he's outright wrong on some things. That doesn't make him a bad person. What makes him a bad person is the way he behaves. But then, once in a while, I agree with him on something.
I'm not a one-sided person who is blinded by hate and therefore can see when someone, even someone with whom I disagree, makes a good point. You should try it. It's entirely liberating to be able to see more than your own view.
This is why I hate talking politics ... I really don't have or devote the time to do a thorough analysis ... there's so many far more interesting things in life. Consequently, y'all get my largely unqualified opinions based upon a most cursory and disinterested scan of a few Yahoo headlines. So sue me. I have not solicited information from you regarding your life or accomplishments. Unfortunately, I seem to have some ill-concealed need for validation. It sux being human. If I seem "blinded by hate" then I have failed to communicate my sense of humor. I'll keep trying. I'm here because I find you guys more interesting than "Pawn Stars" which is itself infinitely more interesting than the "McNeil-Lehrer News Hour". Just remember ... This Still Makes You More Qualifed Then The Average Liberal, To Talk About Politics. Nothing, I Repeat, Nothing You Hear Or See From The Media Today Is Factual, They Have Become Useless.

From What I Have Read From You, Is Good Basic Traditional Values, With A Dash Of Liberal Misdirection....But That Is Because Of The Massive Indoctrination Efforts Over The Last 45 Years Or So....There Is Still Hope For You, While Most Of These Braindead Have Past That Possibility.

While I Agree That Healthcare Needs Reform, We Must Remember That It Is And Never Has Been A " Right "

Its A Business That Provides A Service, Which Employs MIllions.
People Seem To Afford Nice Cars, Cell Phones, Satilite TV...ETC
But Dont Plan For Healthcare ? And Somehow Its Supposed To Be Given Freely To Those Who Refuse To Be Frugle, At The Tax Payers Expense. Remembering That Only Half Of Americans Pay Taxes ?

No, This Is An Entitlement Problem, As Well As Greed By Hospitals And Insurance Companies. Illegals Overwhelm The System, With Anything From Colds To Childbirth. It Is No More A " Right " For Them To Have Free Healthcare, Then The MIllions Who Refuse To Work Or Pay Their Own Way. Of Course We Feel The Need To Help Those Who Really Need It....But At Some Point, Enough Is Enough.

I definitely see the media playing us all like violins. Yahoo news is probably one of the worst, but they're so clumsy at it, it's almost funny. At least you are given the opportunity to comment about the article and there's no censorship. Not quite true, their robo-censor makes Church Lady seem like a potty mouth. While one would expect a large degree of general skepticism from groups of Atheist, I actually find many of them aligned along party-lines in a most disturbing manner. Indeed, politics is itself a game of manipulation and my dis-interest has rendered me somewhat immune. I can say that the rainbow hued future was poorly imagined by most Sci-fi authors ... except maybe Anthony Burgess, Ayn Rand, Aldous Huxley or our old friend George Orwell.

Tell me, why can't the un-employed masses, the recipients of the funds doled out by the liberalized welfare state, be put to good use in infrastructure renewal and revitalization? You know who I'm talking about ... that 47% whom Romney senses might not fall in behind him ... those too lazy to sow, but seem quite perky around reaping time, waiting for their worry-free wheat while the rest of us get the chaff. Too much like slavery I guess. I should know, I'm a white slave ... shouldering the new "white man's burden" of feeding the dog's who are so eager to bite the hand!!! I'm seriously considering a new career as an outlaw biker. Now that's the life.

I do know what you mean , I get no government help.
Never had a bank house loan default , didn't start any wars.
It's a tough life but , someone has to live it.
You may choose to do this, just be prepared to suffer the consequence if the hand is dealt not in favor.
I just keep hoping it will get better and not for the worse.

Carrion Comfort

NOT, I’ll not, carrion comfort, Despair, not feast on thee;
Not untwist—slack they may be—these last strands of man
In me ór, most weary, cry I can no more. I can;
Can something, hope, wish day come, not choose not to be.
But ah, but O thou terrible, why wouldst thou rude on me 5
Thy wring-world right foot rock? lay a lionlimb against me? scan
With darksome devouring eyes my bruisčd bones? and fan,
O in turns of tempest, me heaped there; me frantic to avoid thee and flee?

They may live there now after first screwing the US people with subprime mortgages, then the world by embedding the resultant toxic debt deep inside so called investment packages just before the subprime bubble burst. That was the reason for the world wide recession including the collapse of the US housing market and bankruptcy of a considerable number of companies. And near bankruptcy of several major US institutions such as GM.

Then of course they cried to the US government that without bail out they would go bust and everyone would loose and so they screwed the government too (twice according to Aura).

So not only did they screw the mortgagees, the hopeful investors, your government they also screwed a considerable amount of tax dollars from people like you.

I don’t know about smart but they are/were certainly devious and greedy – oh yes and extremely rich. They can afford to live there ever they want.

It does have an impact. Everything does.

Raw material needs to be bought. Vehicles must be procured, services and maintained. Protective clothing must be bought. Stuff like paint, signage, stickers etc etc.

I am a capitalist through and through. I believe a purely socialist or communist state is a huge mistake, because it takes away the average Joe's dream to one day be king in his own castle... It takes away the entrepreneurial DRIVE.

However. I also believe that as individuals we cannot accomplish much, but as part of a group, a firm, an organisation or a corporation, we can achieve more. You and I cannot mine gold, oil or platinum and yield profits, but as part of a collective we can.

That is why I say YES for capitalism, but we give our share to government too.
