The golden rule is a natural consequence of Evolutionary processes.

jide oni wrote:
UNIVERSAL RELIGION CARDINAL TEACHINGS
That the golden rule,'Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you', i.e.'Love thy neighbors as thyself', is not golden after all.
That there is only one mind, force, life, energy or God, with standardized, uniform, absolute attributes; therefore implying that there should be only one religion throughout the whole world, i.e. a natural way of life rather than mere beliefs.
That everything that happens to man is good, but that these good things come to man in two forms, i.e. pleasurable good and painful good, both as a necessary path for man's progressive ascent towards perfection.
That all religions to-date have been established on a wrong, faulty and shaky premise, i.e. on individual, personal ideas, imaginings, trance-like borderline states and man-made laws; Whereas, the Universal Religion is, in its integrity, founded on the immutable, absolute, natural laws, i.e. the laws of God, thereby making it to perfectly accommodate all the perfect attributes of God.

If memory surves it first appears in the Book of the Dead.

But that is how it works each religion steals from each other.

I wrote that the golden rule is not golden, meaning that I don't subscribe to that idea.

I am debunking that line of reasoning, that one should do to others as one would wish to be done to.

It is obvious that you don't subscribe to the Golden Rule.
That's why you act like a moron.

The very fact that you have to state that explicitly demonstrates what a poor job you are doing.

Your unclear thinking, poorly expressed with careless word choices and bad grammar, leaves your readers feeling that they have become less intelligent just for having read your drivel.

The golden rule is a bit out of date in that it actually bases kindness on one's own desires rather than on empathy. To be truly kind, we have to understand others well enough to have some idea about their needs and desires rather than our own, i.e. do unto others a they would have you do unto them.

Of all human virtues, I most admire kindness, empathy, and compassion.

I look upon the golden rule as a basic acceptable standard, with the tweaks you describe below to be layered on top of it.

Folks,
It is rather disheartening that you people are so shortsighted, with the exception of NightSerf who could notice the flaws in the so-called Golden Rule.
I feel rather uncomfortable with the very low level at which a high percentage of you guys are operating.
But the unreasonable reactions of some of you clearly indicate that I am definitely some steps above you people, excepting NightSerf whose posts have been generally intelligent.
The Golden Rule,'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you', or 'Love thy neighbor as thyself', is long-overdue for rephrasing.
From my end, I will not merely love my neighbor as myself, but I will love everybody as nature loves them; I will no more use myself as the standard and yard-stick for measuring my conducts, but the universal, natural standard itself. I will no more think, consider or treat others in relation to myself, but in relation to the general, universal good. What you think is good for you, for instance, might be injurious to another.

Can't respond at length. Had a little accident on my bicycle, making it hard to manage much on the keyboard. All I can add is my continued advocacy for kindness as a way of life. For me, all else is secondary.

Both, really. Kindness comes from the metaphorical heart, but concern for the well-being of those around me also comes from my view of how I should behave as a human being.

Yikes, I don't see Nature as a very empathetic entity, what with the earthquakes and gamma rays that hit everyday. And the Golden Rule doesn't take into account the masochists idea of what's Golden. Not everybody likes titty pinchers.

Most of the crowd you see in this forum are more interested in the offensive *doing unto others before they do it to me*. mindset.
