Well, now, most of the atheists with whom I am acquainted are quite jovial when they gather to down a pint or two while telling jokes and sharing stories. Atheism and religion get old as topics pretty quickly, so we move on to more interesting subjects. With me, it's usually the local music scene--who's playing, particularly good performances I've been to. With others, it might be hunting, fishing, or even bowling--it depends on who is participating at any given time. But mournful? Not unless someone has just died...

Electrical Engineer,
Behold Atheism's killer bullet:
As the illusion of darkness has no real existence of its own, so also does the delusion of evil, the corresponding misconceived counterpart of the misperceived darkness.
If darkness is the absence of light, swiftly disappearing at the coming of light, therefore similarly is evil the absence of good, disappearing into nothingness in the presence of good.
It follows therefore, that darkness and evil are mere fleeting, insubstantiate shadows cast by the manifest light and good.
Immanent Light and Good! What a positive evidence of a GOOD GOD you are!

That made no sense what so ever. The 'color' black is the absorption of all visible light waves. Put an infrared camera on the end of a scope and look into that 'black' area, it's more stuff.

Darkness is not the absence of light, it is the absorption of visible light. Also, it isn't an illusion.

You know what is really funny about trolls like this one? The way they go back and place positive "Judge It" icons on their own posts and negative ones on almost everyone else's. Does he really think anyone cares about those silly things or that he's fooling anyone? what a dweeb!

You're right Bob of Quantum-faith (aka notes and notes 2) is a dweeb. If you don't think so, look at how many times he judges others then boast it took him less than 5 minutes to change it.

In the time i would take to go back and affect the Judge It balance on issues that I care about, I can write enough posts to affect the way people think much more. Does anyone actually pay attention to those icons or think that they actually reflect opinions worthy of note? Aren't the post themselves more worthy of consideration? Is a well written, logically consistent post enhanced or devalued by Judge It icons? I don't think so. I don't think that enough people bother with them to make them worth thinking about at all.

Consider the spam Icon. What is spamming in the first place? Wikipedia defines is as "the use of electronic messaging systems to send unsolicited bulk messages (spam), especially advertising, indiscriminately." Those used to appear more often, but consistent reporting and almost instant removal of such posts has made them relatively rare in Topix forums. I can't remember the last time I saw true spamming in the atheist forum, yet it is often included in negative sets of icons, so I can't help but wonder what people are thinking when they click the spam icon. Have they forgotten what spamming is? Did they ever know in the first place? Or do they click it simply because three can be done at once, none of the options really apply, and they don't want to leave a slot "open" for a positive icon from a subsequent user?

It all seems so vapid and silly.

Electrical Engineer,
Darkness and evil have no existence of their own.
Darkness is the absence of light, in the sense that light is a thing, while darkness is no thing.
One can bring light to a place, because it is a thing; but no one can bring darkness anywhere, because it is no thing.
Light has source, but no known source for darkness.
Darkness and color have nothing in common, while black and all the other colors are dependent on light.
Darkness/evil is merely the negative/shadow cast by the manifest light/good.
Immanent light and good preclude the positive existence of their opposites, while being trailed by their shadows whenever (everywhere) they are manifestly present.
At this juncture, the semantic categorial contrast between opposites and negatives readily comes to mind.
While the opposite of beauty, for instance, is ugliness, its negative/shadow is not ugliness, but simply its absence.
Similarly, the negative of good, erroneously referred to as evil, is simply the shadowy absence of good.

Destroy evil, and Atheism is destroyed.
And this is exactly what I have done.
But now simply showing the bereaved Atheists of the world how I was able to achieve this feat of arms.
Are these evil or good?:
Studying to pass an examination; Being relieved of insupportable pains through death; Divorce, when a marriage is due for dissolution; When a thief loses his stolen possession to another thief; Where an erring person is chastened for self-improvement; Mass death through natural disasters, epidemic, pandemic,'accidents' etc, for the prevention of population explosion and physical/emotional pangs attendant upon installmental deaths through 'natural' deaths; Early-life financial straits, that one might be thoroughly groomed for leadership roles in later years of life; Greater number of servant population in the service of the fewer masters - at least in line with the natural leadership-followership pyramid-like structure; Decay phase prelusive to growth; Bigger rivers swallowig up smaller ones; etc, etc.
