Some ask where an atheist comes off talking about religion.

Atheists are more likely to have been religious if not very religious at one time, and have seen the truth for themselves. This gives the atheist an unusual perspective of religion. A viewpoint that the religious that have always believe and never questioned their religion does not have.

In society the religious for the most part are incapable of tolerance and acceptance of others religious beliefs or lack thereof. So the religious vilify those that they cannot understand. With this comes postulation and wrongful judgments of others.

When the religious community can come to terms with the fact that they believe in something that is unknown, improvable, and taken totally on faith without any chance of admitting that they know for 100 percent then maybe they can become civilized and responsible for their actions and intolerance.

The religious needs to challenge their faith to become totally enlighten. Then the religious will have true and unadulterated belief.

Yeah, good post, and for myself I've acquired the "hobby", I guess you'd say, of looking at and understanding why it is people believe, and what they're willing to believe.

It's pretty fun.

Before I became atheist I never gave belief much thought. It was just something you did in many respects.

It is very interesting the different beliefs even in the same religion.
Among the religions of the world they all believe in a god of some type, but for the most part none can agree on the type of god they believe.
