Nov 7, 2013 Full story: Examiner.com 13

Duncan Henderson is an atheist in Alabama . Yes, they do exist and what is even more amazing is that at the age of 14 Henderson had the courage to try to start an atheist student club in an Alabama public high school.

Why?

Because silence through violence is the simple solution for the simple minded christian.

The only solutions religions offer are final solutions.

So it is considered "..even more amazing .. that at the age of 14 Henderson had the courage to try to start an atheist student club in an Alabama public high school."
I think that shows that some religionists in Alabama are so frightened that their faith is a load of nonsense that they're as afraid of a high school atheist club as the Taliban are of a girl's education.

Religion = superstition

I am afraid for this student. There are too many violent types among socalled christians. And it only takes one. I suspect that the US is one of the most uncivilized nations among all the industrial nations - moreso than anywhere in Europe, though there are clusters of bigots and individual bigots in many places, unfortunately. They should all be informed of a new discovery of a specific forecast for the future, that to bring on the end times and their own salvation, there is supposed to be a rumble in the desert where there are no animals other than humans who are fundie extremist violent types, of various religions, and this is to be done with sticks and stones. Then get Palin and Bush to lead a volunteer army. maybe Ann Coulter and Michele Bachmann too - so all the lustful and stupid fundie men would follow them. I'd even watch a cartoon version of that, with no real blood, of course.

Grim. That is what concerns me about the USA. There is too much superstition and intolerance of disbelief in gods. There's freedom of religion, but freedom from it is sometimes questioned.

Who are civilised is a very subjective question. I find people much the same wherever I go, it is the cultures and community of ideas that vary. That happens within nations as well as between them.

I don't think USAmericans are better or worse than Europeans. I think it is a question of developing the right culture and traditions - and the world has to care what USAmericans think. I can only speak of the UK. I think Brits and British culture are as violent as USAmericans & US culture, but without the gun-loving tradition.

The desert in the Middle East is plagued with religious tribalism and illiteracy, but their youth want our freedoms and their own form of democracy. The last thing they need is a new deluge of violent fundies!:-)

It would be nice if USAmericans in general would reject all religious superstitions and fundamentalism though. It would certainly help us against it elsewhere.

(I've read replies elsewhere by Bob and others but cannot always reply - but thanks for all responses)

Being the bearer of bad news is always a risky proposition. The bad news that there's no invisible guy in the sky is about the worst news theists can hear. Unfortunately, some people react to bad news by lashing out at the messenger. In places like the South in the USA, where guns are a deeply embedded part of the culture, violence is always a possibility. The vigilante fantasy is part and parcel of the US gun culture.

...because 'the religious' are all the same, no matter which decoder ring they wear.

The only power their god has over you is your fear of it, if you don't believe then you have no fear.

This really grips their shlt!

It's like when you have a christian at the dining table and they proclaim that they are going to say 'grace' and you just start eating and tell them that you're an atheist.

The look of hate you get because they were unable to exercise that small amount of control over you is palpable.

GOD DIDN'T SAY YOU COULD EAT YET!!!! WWWaaahhhh!

Why start up an atheist club in the first place?
Sounds like something a political party or a cult would do.
Probably a pedo parent of the punk who started this 'club' is behind it

Why open your mouth, print books and build buildings, when you have no proof of god?

Why lie to society and expect society to just sit there taking your religious bullsh*t one after another?

The cult's faith based mental illness ensures questions of proof remain unanswered...
