It is fascinating to note that atheists boast that most scientists are atheists.

So, go pray, than go to the zoo and watch your long lost relative swing on the bars........nice. Religion is a learned human behavior, just as evolution is learned. Are these theories correct? NO, absolutely not! The primitive human animals mind comprehension levels are to low to handle the truth as to human existence.
So, what? You presume to have something that has evidence that would refute scientific evolution, then?

LOL!

I just bet you do... your "aliens" beamed it directly into your brain, right after you started wearing aluminum-foil headgear.

Lopawah or however he's spelling it this week (he keeps getting banned), has no mind of any kind, according to his posts.

He's just another mindless True Believer™-- a brain-dead godbot.

He's likely to be banned again soon. And he'll return with yet another spelling variation.

The human animal will believe whats its told, simple fact. If Bob was raised overseas he would believe Americans are infidels and must be exterminated. Religion is a learned behavior. Why so many different Gods? Why so many different beliefs? One God there should be one belief and one religion, not thousands. Such an almighty and powerful being must not be such a ghost. So the creation theory, or story has no merit. Evolution is just as bogus. Find some bones add some DNA and bingo, human and apes are relatives. Each generation of humans are seeing the truth, the smart, intelligent ones are seeing thru the smoke screen. Humans are gullible and easily influenced from birth.....its brainwashing gone wild. Experience is the best text book!

ATLAS has not confirmed.
http://www.science20.com/quantum_diaries_surv ...
This is a mischaracterization. ATLAS did confirm the 126 GeV Higgs using the ZZ channel. There is a larger signal than expected in the diphoton channel. This *could* be a sign of supersymmtery, but let's wait until more data comes in. There is a discovery for the Higgs.

http://www.science20.com/quantum_diaries_surv ...
in which we find:

http://www.science20.com/alpha_meme/physicist ...

Criticism quote:
And with the hype there always comes nonsense, nonsense like that the masses of particles are due to the Higgs (No they are not!), nonsense like that the Higgs is some sort of ether while however Einstein disproved all ethers (neither the first nor the second is true), nonsense like that the mass of the Higgs may decide whether our universe is stable.
That the standard model of particle physics has the Higgs does not tell us whether the standard model is fundamental or plainly an emergent symmetry, the (relatively) low energy behavior of a more fundamental physics inside of which the Higgs particle is merely a pseudo particle (which it is anyway, but that is another story).
That the rest mass parameter of fermions inside the standard model is allowed to be nonzero due to the Higgs field breaking the electroweak symmetry (or perhaps even somehow effectively modeled by a Higgs field interaction) tells you nothing about the nature of mass. Mass is inertia against acceleration, the fundamental nature of which is still unknown and the amount of which is overwhelmingly due to Einstein's E = m c2 applied to binding energies that have nothing to do with the Higgs mechanism! Higgs explains mass? Nonsense!
end quote
5 Sigma means a chance of 1 in a million.

Polymath:
Although it is probably missed by most people, there are some valid points here. The mass of ordinary matter is NOT due to the Higg's mechanism!

PM-Double fine-PM:
We have several candidates for quantum gravity: string and M-theory and loop quantum gravity are the main contenders, although there are others. The problem is that we simply don't have the technology to test these ideas. The problem is that the energy levels where gravity becomes relevant in quantum mechanics are quintillions of times higher than what we can do at the LHC. There are also technical problems in string theory (it allows for many different versions of the vacuum; which is the real one is a fundamental problem).
The next question is whether there is some sort of supersymmetry. There are hints and rumors that some sort of it is being seen at the LHC. If that turns out to be the case, then it is a *major* advance in our understanding of physics. For example, there are very natural contenders for dark matter if supersymmetry is found to be correct.
The good thing about supersymmetry is that we should be able to test at least part of it with the LHC. For the forseeable future, real tests of quantum gravity are beyond us.
DF: Okay. So, since the QTG is out of the equation it seems, for now. Does that mean establishing supersymmetry is the next 'major step'?
Establishing whether supersymmetry is correct is the next major step. If it isn't, then figuring out what dark matter is composed of is an alternative. Either way, the dark matter question is a very important one.
Ordinary matter is made primarily from electrons and up/down quarks. The vast majority of the mass of a proton is due to the binding energy of these particles, NOT the Higg's mechanism.
The main question is the nature of the LSSMP (Least Super Symmetric Massive Particle), which should be stable and have many of the properties of dark matter (minimal E&M interaction, etc).
---
Well and we read that we now have about 500 forms of matter.(Perimetre Institute)
And about 27 theories of which above are just a few.

Science and religion have different goals. Religion teaches morality and self development; science has nothing to contribute to religion's goals.

Morality and self development are far older than religion, without those traits there would be no religion, no humanity upon which religions can be built.

Religions simply hijack morality and self development as their own, then pervert those traits and attempt to deny them to anyone not in their club because it makes them look good to themselves while denying their version of humanity to anyone else.

The real discussion here is (was, this is an old thread, revived last night by topix admins) progress. Is it progressive to believe in a few thousand years old god book that condones genocide, subjugation, slavery, rape, theft and intolerance to the exclusion of knowledge or is the human race going to progress through acquiring further knowledge (science)

You 'Progressives" sure love self serving language. You object to religion but offer nothing to replace it. Slavery was ended in the USA by religious Christians. Without religion, there is no absolute standard of morality.

Slavery still exists - you're enslaved by a religious cult that has no evidence of god.

That's because religious goals are about indoctrination. Which by the way, is not moral.
