When you start a sentence with the word "Just", instead of "You are just", or "You're just", you probably shouldn't be trying to give writting advice. LOL!!!! Idiot.
Sorta like you starting a sentence with And when replying to yon?
That's the pot calling the kettle black.

Words are words. I use to be very sensitive to others use of words just as I used them.

I realized that they are words and are used to make a point. What others think is vulgar may not be at all vulgar to others.

Sorry if I upset your sensibility, but at times there is no other way to express one’s self.

I have after 15 years of dealing with the unreasonable of the religious have given up on being nice to them. The ones that are reasonable and show respect receive my respect in kind.

no, I am from Iowa, I have heard the word before. I just think that our side is so intellectually and morally superior to the horrid fundies, that I like to see them look gross while we are civil as possible. I like you and your comments.

you do not really upset my sensitivity personally. see my reply above - I am from Iowa and have heard words that are colorful before. as I wrote to another of my rational friends, I just want us to be so superior that we are practically perfect in every way (Mary Poppins source, I think), while the others are boorish, ignorant, arrogant, etc, and all the things that should turn off any rational centrist. unfortunately, the number of rational centrists who come on topix to compare the two opposing views is probably very small.

besides, I have to complain at my friends who use vulgar terms if I am going to attack the rightwing nuts for using them, to be consistent. I do not see the depth of venom coming from our side that I see from the other side, however. for your sort, it seems more like words - from some of them, it seems like a manifestation of deep anger, hate, need to dominate and trash others.

Funny, but all the people you have mentioned actually say, repeatedly, to question authority, and professors love being questioned because it challenges them. Scientists love being questioned even more, but only if you have evidence to support your assertions will they consider them valid, since they have evidence to support theirs. You are just jealous that you don't understand anything not spoonfed you by a preacher.
Anyone who wants a thousand year rule by Jesus our God and King, as one of the hymns says about that allegedly glorious future, is obviously an authoritarian personality. one who wants to submit to authority, and who also wants to exert authority over others.

there is a great test - not perfect, but helpful - about personality and opinion types. it uses two measures, one from liberal to conservative, and one from libertarian to authoritarian.
I took it and came out centrist in the liberal libertarian square, which is where I think I am. I am authoritarian about protective matters, when I do not want someone to get hurt physically or emotionally - protecting animals, children, women, the poor, innocents, the powerless, etc - and do not approve of the misuse of the term libertarian, which is supposed to include the concept that one's liberty is not to be at the expense of someone else's life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, health, etc.

I understand your point and I do agree with you, but it is at times wasted on some people. The only way to get their attention (if it is at all possible) is to resort to their level of understanding.

What of the promises of Zeus?
What of the promises of Allah?
What of the promises of Ra?
.... and so on.
Which one is true? Which one is correct? Which one is not mythology? You have to show that yours is not otherwise all your preaching is just garbage based on mythology.

Hi kitten, I think those glasses make you look sexy!! Are you hetro or Gay?. Fancy a holiday in my castle in. East Yorkshire, loads of history to see and not manyGodbots, but English godbots are nice people, all charity work and usually Liberals, the link between the right & religion isn't really an issue in the UK. I believe it's because as a whole our state Education system us much better then yours, it seems Religious fanaticism decreases as IQ increases. Bye

Interesting post, I am asexual, I don't have an orientation because I don't have a sexual desire or drive.

As to the rest of your point, I cannot argue any of it. It seems to even be happening in the US, the more educated a person becomes, the less zealotry, bigotry, and hatred they seem to possess.

You're lucky. I had one once, I think, but now it's starting to seem like I never did. A messy business, all in all, and potentially humiliating (what with bodily noises and secretions and such). Best to never get involved. Sometimes it results in births, which, from what I've been able to infer, is akin to sh!tting a stove. In this country, particularly, you have better than a 50/50 chance of becoming involved with a socio/psychopath. I mean, look at these threads.

Personally, and with the benefit of hindsight, I would have been better to avoid the whole thing. Somebody said that if a relationship breaks up, get a cat. Cats live approximately 13 years. If the cat dies, get another, then another. At that point you're home free. I'm beginning to subscribe more and more to that advice. Then, I suppose, there's always the option of platonic relationships.

Sorry. I was sober when I wrote it, and maybe that was the problem. Anyway, it was meant to be humorous, in a detached, self-mocking kind of way. Oh well ...

actually, I would be horrified if it were possible to get some of the types on here to change their minds and become rational, because they are so disgusting that I do not want that type on the rational side. If someone is vicious or really nasty, or has behaved badly, I prefer that the person be someone with a different view than my own. That is why I nag some that I mostly agree with even when they are mildly disappointing in their lack of civility. It is a sort of lefthanded praise, if you understand.
I think you raised an issue on economics once, and I asked you to explain. The term libertarian is supposed to include freedom without injuring others and taking away their freedom. Fraud injures others and is not something a libertarian should support - and Goldman Sachs and Wall Street are full of fraud with the derivatives thing and the credit default swaps. So how are you for financial libertarianism? They are crooks, they do not want to be regulated because they want their crooked behavior to not be illegal and they want laws not to be enforced if it is illegal.

Well, to me the debates on here are simply informative and practice, I cannot speak for anyone else but that is why I do it. I suspect that they're faith is so weak and shaky that to keep it from collapsing completely they have to do everything they can to convince themselves that their religion is correct.

It is not for their benefit, it is for our benefit and the benefit of the youth who they are brainwashing, to show them for the frauds they are has a bigger impact on the world than convincing them of anything.
