Congressman calls evolution lie from 'pit of hell'

Georgia Rep. Paul Broun said in videotaped remarks that evolution, embryology and the Big Bang theory are "lies straight from the pit of hell" meant to convince people that they do not need a savior.

The Republican lawmaker made those comments during a speech Sept. 27 at a sportsman's banquet at Liberty Baptist Church in Hartwell. Broun, a medical doctor, is running for re-election in November unopposed by Democrats.

A bit of an embarrassment for some Tennesseans, but more importantly, this guy sits on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology even though he is clearly anti-science and is as extreme as the worst fundies that we see here. Worse yet, reelection is looking good for him.

I'm not sure what Broun does is thinking, to be honest. On the other hand, he will garner support and votes because of the comments, so, maybe he is thinking - politically.

Yes, he is a Republican, and oddly enough, the son of a Democrat state senator. He has a BS in Chemistry and is a Doctor of Medicine.

From what I've read of him, he's a bit of a wacko but we have those in both parties. If you doubt that, this might remind you.... "We have to pass this bill to see what's in it."

I will agree with him on one issue. "lives and money could be saved by "intelligence" and less "political correctness"

Evolution is indeed a lie. God created human beings and gave them moral fiber setting them apart from animals.

Music proves it. There is no logical reason harmonies, rhythm and tone would cause profound emotional responses in humans based on evolution.

The Catholic Church accepts evolution as do other CHRISTIAN denominations. How many amputees have been healed at Lourdes? Why won't god heal amputees? Read and be amazed:

It is amazing to me that this debate stil rages on.
Grown Homo sapien sapiens arguing over the validity of the 'theory of evolution'. The evidence of evolution is fairly well documented.
And without playing your trump card,'GOD DID IT' ther is really not too much actual evidence that debunks evolution.
Correct or not it is an exellent theory that has no scientific reason to be thrown out the window.

The 'Big Bang' on the other hand is a much more complicated and abstract view of the beginings of our universe. Disbelief in that theory is a little more acceptable then denying evolution.

Identify the case of even ONE amputee who grew a new limb at Lourdes. A listing of "cures" of people with diseases which are well known to go into spontaneous remission is not as impressive as a single amputee re-growing a limb would be. Salamanders do this regularly, and no one even says it is a miracle. If your god created salamanders, which routinely grow new tails, then, clearly your omniscient deity has the technology to do the same thing with humans. So, why does he not do it? How come the only people 'healed' at Lourdes are people with conditions susceptible of spontaneous remission?

Sounds can remind people of pleasant experiences with particular noises. If someone as a child was soothed by his/her parents, who sang him or her a song, then that child is going to remember said song as good. Associating senses with emotion.
