You know, I've heard cleverer taunts and retorts from fifth graders. I'm reminded of two films: The Dead Poet's Society in which Robin Williams exhorts his students to, above all, not be boring, and Roxanne, the Cyrano de Bergerac adaptation in which Steve Martin's character skewers a man's dull wit in a bar because the best insult he can com up with is "big nose."

Really, guys, if you can't insult with style and wit, don't bother.

You hang out with fifth graders? Wow! The Dead Poets Society is an amazing movie but don't hang out with fifth graders because that sounds creepy. So do you have insulting style? V

Goes to show how much you know. Research and speak after. Laveys Satanist are atheist.
As an afterthought, not as a consequence of their atheism. All satanists are atheists, but not all atheists are satanists. Or put another way, all catholic child molesters are catholic, but not all catholics are child molesters. See what I did there?

Lol! I don't know about all Catholics especially since the person above hangs out with 5th graders but if you read earlier, all I claimed is all Laveys Satanist are atheist. Not all satanists, do get your syllogism right.

Not all satanists are atheists. Some believe in Satan to the exclusion of YHWH or other gods, but in doing so still, they are still theistic. Others believe in both Satan and YHWH or other gods and simply choose Satan over Him or them--still a theistic point of view. Laveyan satanists are atheists, but still follow silly rites and rituals, thus having little in common with the larger atheistic subpopulation.

Satanists can be pantheistic, duotheistic, monotheistic, or nontheistic: atheists are, by definition, nontheistic. Very few atheists are also satanists.

Yes, I was speaking specifically about Anton's satanists, I think that the op was referencing them. And you're right, their silly little rituals render them a world apart from the average atheist.

That doesn't surprise me much. Catholicism seems to have a cultural component in the same way that Judaism does, albeit to a lesser extent. About half of the Jews I've known over the course of my life have also been atheists--yet they go to Temple or Synagogue regularly and make sure their children go to Bar Mitzvah classes to learn Hebrew and Jewish history. I see this as a rational balance between retaining cultural identity and acknowledging reality. I think it goes a long way toward explaining how such a tiny minority of the world's population has been responsible for so much of its progress in the arts and sciences.

Not many of the Catholics I've known over the years have been outwardly atheistic, but most have been rationalists, easily separating religion from more material pursuits, which may explain why they have not been behind the times as individuals and have contributed to the arts and sciences roughly in proportion to their numbers--they are, after all, the majority or plurality religion in most of the western world.

Exactly. I know several atheists who attend religious services for the fellowship. But for the brainless saying the Catholic church is the atheist religion doesn't have the implied sting as some nearly non existent satanist group where under 2% dub themselves atheists. Fact is there are more atheist Catholics than all the satanists of any stripe worldwide combined.
