Religion = superstition
Get over it.
well, I would not oversimplify and say every type of religion is equally equal to superstition. I do think there is usually a strong element of superstition in religion, though there is superstition in other types of thinking as well.
But I certainly assert strongly that there are varieties of belief and thought that are called religious, and that there are degrees of silliness and degrees of virtue which distinguish them from each other - and that includes within most denominations, as well as comparing one with another. It would vary a bit within Catholicism from Pope to Pope, for example. It certainly varies among followers of Joseph Smith, from the evil Fundamentalists (FLDS types accused of statutory rape), to the mostly (but not entirely) rightwing Mormons, to the kinder, gentler Community of Christ types in the midwest including my town, and downhill again to the Restoration branch types who are opposed to giving women equal rights in the church. Even among evangelicals there are kind types who are wwjd oriented, and especially pro-protection of the environment - and the end of the world welcoming committee types who are just lusting for Armageddon and their own rapture, so they caN SHOW OFF THEIR SUPERIORITY.

There are some crazy religions and some crazy people out there that claim to be Christians. There are also a lot of crazy atheists. What people do and say can really not be helped. I'm a bible believing Christian that believes Jesus is the one and only God. Thats a mainstream belief that is shared among millions of people. I've personally never met any Christian that think they are "superior" to anyone else. That seems to be a fabrication among some of you that has resulted in a huge chip being placed on your shoulders. Thats really too bad.

Your view is parochial.

Where I went to school over 30 years ago, almost everyone was a non-believer but we still called ourselves Christians.(I was even counted Christian in the 2001 census! Force of habit:) Even the RC priest didn't seriously argue that Jesus was the son of The God, nor did he believe in the virgin birth - they weren't stupid. They saw the Bible as allegorical, not literal.

Obama gives the impression that he doesn't take the idea of an Abrahamic god too seriously. I suspect it is one of the reasons for his popularity. At least he seems less crazy than Bushes 41 & 42...

Still no apology for that statement (by bush41, see link).

Hi HF. Yes, I've noticed this difference in our views before.

Some are sillier than others, but I have found few religions that aren't based on or supportive of superstition. Just a few minor cults really. I would even be careful of the Quakers and Unitarians, though some congregations show commendable tolerance and might do more good than harm, overall.

My comments are generally aimed at ridiculous beliefs like Abrahamic gods; and at religious attacks on science, the law, etc; or at religious tribalism; or religously inspired prejudice against gays, non-believers, etc.

you honestly think obama is popular because some people think he is just "faking" his religion? lol wow thats quite a whopper. Obama actually isn't all that popular now. Take away the blacks and he is definately not popular. I'm starting to wonder where you people are from. You seem very out of touch with American society.

Wow...I'm not even going to attempt to respond to this. It was happening even before Jesus supposedly came around! Do you just pretend to be ignorant to your surroundings and your world or are you really this disconnected from the world?

I'm sure they are...there is nothing to "handle". It's been happening all over the world for hundreds and hundreds of years all over the world, as I said before.

No that's a common fact...it happens on here all of the time, and it's an attitude held by some on both the Christian and atheist sides.

Lol...everyone else seems out if touch! Now I think this would go along with that superiority complex that was talked about earlier.

'You people'? You're 'a people' too and seem to be the one out of touch.

And I didn't say he 'faked his religion'. That would be a bit misleading and that's apparently your foolish interpretation of what I said.

I think it is probable that Obama doesn't believe in the virgin birth or an Abrahamic god. He doesn't sound that stupid to me. A non-believer in an Abrahmic god who is too open and frank couldn't usually get far in US politics - that is a disgrace and limitation the US must currently bear. The point it that change takes time.

You think I go around discussing religion all the time? You guys are the ones obsessed with it. Can't believe you actually have meetings. I guess its your version of church.
If course not.

You have to figure out how and where to hide the bodies, and how to cover up the abuse or pay off the families of the victims.

And, naturally, you have to plan which women's clinic to picket next.

iseeyou you said people in America get killed everyday for being a Christian and for not being a Christian. Show me some examples of this because I've never heard of it. It should be common knowledge if this happens every day. Of course we both know you are full of it

It would be pointless to try to give examples because I made the mistake of not being detailed and I said the word "everyday" so any examples of people losing their life due to their religion or lack thereof will not appease you because I will not be able to list one for every day of every year from the past 200 years until today. However if you are not aware of the history, just here in the U.S. then you would need to do the research on it yourself, because as I've said before, I will not do research for you. If you have doubts about it then you should look it up for yourself...I would believe you just on you're word, and you shouldn't me either. I always look up anything that I'm curious about or that I question.

lol atheists actually have meetings???? To do what? Sounds like a complete waste of time. You guys probably plan for next years anti Christmas campaign or which school or organization you are going to pick on next. You might even go over your latest billboard design. You guys are so predictable
I have told you before that I mentioned YOU in one of our meetings and they loved your name. You shouldn't act so surprised, plus "were predictable you should have predicted that we have meetings.

back to my previous question that you steered away from with the "you really have meetings" question.

If you are a Christian because you feel that most people are, what would you do if most people weren't?

Also you never answered my question on the Biebs.

By your logic, if a lot of people are doing something that's the right thing to do. Lots of people listen to Justin Bieber, soooooooooooooooo? Are you a Belieber? Does Antiatheist have Bieber fever?
