Yeah... and I used to teach Sunday School, back in the day.
I had grown up hearing the bible stories as a child, so as a SS teacher, I would glance at the lesson and think, "Oh,**that** story" and I would tell the story from memory.
The kids (I always taught the younger kids--as few adults would put up with their lively approach to life) always seemed to enjoy my bible stories better than the "official" book-ones.
Of course, I'd liven it up with dramatics, and frequently drew simple cartoons on a portable chalkboard as I spoke. I would sit on the floor, bringing everyone to the same eyelevel.
And I **never** refused a child's questions--even if I had to sometimes say, "I do not know".
... those were fun times, I suppose, looking back.
About the only thing I miss about not being in church. But that was 20+ years ago-- I was much younger.
Of all the religion teachers I had growing up, I don't think there was even one that ever used the phrase "I don't know" when asked a question. I figured out over time that when they had no real answer, their "explanations" were much longer and far more confusing. If someone said "Huh??"... that's when the standard "The lord works in mysterious ways" came into play.

with all due respect you sound pretty ignorant. I don't mean dumb.........I mean ignorant. You are looking and listening to people that have absolutely no interest in finding any evidence that supports God. You really think any of these people on here are open minded about it? Of course not. You are clouding your young mind with garbage. You think Jesus was a hippy? Give me a break. You have been watching one too many saturday night live episodes. Have you actually read any of the books I recommended? Again, take a year or so and actually do some research and that doesn't mean atheist msg boards.
LOL! It's quite funny that you (and every other fundie christian) would describe yourself as 'open minded' because you allow yourself to believe in a 'god'. At the same time, you will openly reject ANYTHING that doesn't in some convoluted way support that belief. Seriously, how is that even remotely being "open minded"?

terry are you saying YOU are open minded???? You have a mind set that there is no God and you would never accept any evidence otherwise. You are an atheist zombie.

You (and those that have come before you) have never presented verifiable evidence for your 'god'(that's why "faith" is the key requirement for religion). I have a mind that is open to actual evidence. Show me undeniable evidence and I'll accept it. Your bible, warm fuzzy feelings, the say so of your parents, and your desire for it to be true does not equate to evidence! If those were acceptable forms of evidence, ALL religions would be "true" since they all have the same type of evidence you have.

And I think it likely he would admit that all the other gods are false gods, and religions, false religions. So he is an Atheist with respect to all those other faiths.

And that? Is 100% PROOF there are NO GODS ANYWHERE.

What god would permit FALSE religions to even exist?

Proof that the god of Jesus was a FALSE one. Thanks!

After ... what? 4000 years? That is way too late!

What was you god DOING for 4000 years prior to Jesus?

I?

I for one, would **LOVE** for there to be a god who cares about humanity.

Seriously.

That would be incredible!

No more worries about massive plagues wiping out huge sections of the population.(pity about YOUR god and him failing to prevent those)

No more worries about massive storms killing and making homeless large chunks of humankind (pity about YOUR god failing to prevent exactly that-- multiple times)

No more worries about innocent babies dying from horrid parasitic organisms (pity about YOUR god failing to prevent that)

No more worries about children being abused by false priests (pity about YOUR god-- who cannot seem to prevent that, either)

Yes.. I would **LOVE** to witness a REAL, CARING GOD.

Your god?

Simply does not qualify---

- YOUR god?

Is neither loving, nor caring.

It's a damn good thing YOUR god also isn't real.

I never used that last bit, when I was a teacher.

I was taught that intellectual honesty was the most important trait in a teacher-- first and foremost. So I'd happily say, "I do not know" or the functional equivalent in 4-year-old-speak.:D

Occasionally, I'd quip, "nobody knows the answer to that question-- but someday? Maybe they will. Who knows?**YOU** could grow up to be the person who finds the answer to that question".

The kids thought that last answer was funniest of all. Which is good-- if they are laughing, they are still thinking about it.

:)

I wonder how many of those kids continued to ask questions as they grew up? Most should be married and have kids of their own by now...

I never discouraged questions from the audience. I always thought that for a child, there should be no forbidden questions' asked.

Indeed-- it is the exact **opposite** of being "open minded".

His bigotry is another trait that proves he is the opposite of "open minded".

I would happily accept ANY evidence that is OBJECTIVE.

You haven't even TRIED to do that, actually!

You resort to horrid name-calling, as in the above...!

Your god-- were he real-- would be so NOT proud of your FAIL, here.

terry you expect me to believe that YOU would look at any evidence that doesn't support your faith of atheism? give me a break. You can't answer tons of questions that I have posed to you yet you still believe in your atheism nonsense. How do you know atheism is correct? You don't.

Agreed. For children, the only 'stupid question' is the one left unasked because they might feels embarrassed that they don't already know. I tell my son (8) that if he doesn't know something, ask. If I don't have an answer we sit down at the computer and figure it out together.

Well, the god-bots can't argue their claimed 'superiority' without completely changing the meanings of certain words and phrases to fit their arguments.

Man you're an idiot. Atheism is not a 'faith based' view. The extreme lack of any credible evidence for the existence of 'gods' makes it (atheism) the default position! I don't believe in things that have no evidence! My views are evidence based. Since there is no evidence for the existence of any god, past or present, I give them no more credence than pixies, leprechauns, unicorns, dragons, etc.

Care to flex your stupidity some more? It's still funny, but getting old quickly

What other part of your world view is accepted by you without evidence?

Athiesm isn't a faith, stupid.

Just the opposite: It is an ABSENCE OF faith.

You are seriously full of it.

A wise move: you teach him several things-- that the computer has access to the ultimate "answer machine" (the internet).

That sometimes the "answer" (via the internet) is garbage, and the lesson of "garbage in, garbage out" is learned.

And that asking is **always** in order.

Yes... George Orwell understood that methodology quite well, in 1984.

Idiot: it is NOT that "atheism is correct".

It **IS** that Theism is not correct--- so far.

**BIG** difference, but I suspect you are incapable of understanding why.....

oh terry.......couldn't make it without the standard atheist jargon of leprechauns, unicorns, and dragons? Bottom line, you don't know everything. Not even close. Therefore if you were honest you would have to leave to door open to the possibility of a God. However, you aren't honest. You hold to your belief system and nothing would ever change your mind. That is why atheism is for morons.
