SUBJECT CHANGE:
at what age did you became an atheist, agnostic etc.
was it a gradual change or a sudden moment of clarity?

For me, it was a gradual change. Many years of study, observation debate and experience to eventually develop my current stance on the subject.I was around 25 when I identified myself as atheist.

For me, around late 30s. I went through a transition from skeptical christian, to agnostic, to agnostic atheist. That took a couple of years. I was one of those who had difficulty shaking off a lifetime of self-indoctrination.

you guys are so deep into your atheism that you don't even realize you have been indoctrinated into a cult.

A cult?? No leaders, no church, no practices or dogmas to follow.

The only requirement is to have evidence before making grandiose claims. Which sounds like simple common sense.

I went to a CofE primary school. My dad was CofE, mum catholic. They got a lot of grief from the catholic side when they got married and then produced my elder sisters.["Your children are catholics but your husband will not go to heaven"]

Not surprisingly perhaps, I fell out with organised religion by the time I was 10, not sure when I stopped believing in god as it was a more gradual thing. Certainly by age 20, though.

Early teen years. It never made sense to me how evidence was required to accept any other claim as being true, yet 'faith'(belief with no evidence) was required for religion.

The phrase; "if it sounds to good to be true, it's probably not" never rang more true to me as when applied to religion.

I assume all atheists believe in evolution and the like. Will some of you please explain to me how the first thing was created? How did it happen? Look forward to hearing your "evidence".

Oh look, another ill educated believer is trying to confuse the beginning of the universe with Evolution.

You don't want the truth.

Matter was formed in the big bang 13.7 billion years ago. Life was formed from non-life ~4 billion years ago. "The history of life on Earth began about 3.8 billion years ago, initially with single-celled prokaryotic cells, such as bacteria." As to exactly this happened is a scientific question. However we clearly do not have all the answers, but the evidence indicates natural causes rather than supernatural ones.

what caused the big bang? How is life formed from non life? How did things just pop into existence? Isn't it impossible for something to come from nothing? Please don't just parrot what you have read.......explain it.

quite obvious that angel can't answer the question so she/he resorts to attempting to bash the belief of creation.

People have all sorts of ridiculous beliefs. The people that face ridicule are the ones that make those beliefs public.

Creationism simply lends itself to bashing and ridicule.

If you don't want your beliefs ridiculed, don't have ridiculous beliefs... or simply keep them to yourself

From what I'm aware of, all available evidence points to the Laws of Physics and chemical reactions. Are there definitive answers to your questions? No... but scientists all over the world are actively working on it.

I know you are simply tolling. You're looking for a religious style answer for questions that aren't that moronically simple. If you were truly interested in finding out what the evidence shows, you'd likely be doing what I have been doing for over 40 yrs and looking it up yourself! No, I'm not a scientist, but it has always fascinated me so I read about it frequently. You obviously have the proper tools to search out the current scientific evidence, and conclusions based on that evidence for your self. The fact that you're on a Topix forum board asking those question smacks of dishonesty to begin with... not that I would expect anything more form your type.
