Why Do Atheists Ridicule Christianity?

May 5, 2011 Full story: Free Republic 6,033

'RELIGION SHOULD BE TREATED WITH RIDICULE, HATRED AND CONTEMPT' Atheism, or 'antitheism,' which was once considered taboo in America, has gone somewhat mainstream in today's society.

You don't tear down the whole house, just because it needs some paint, or a new kitchen.

Your way? Bulldoze the house, the two on either side and plow up the street too.

Leaving nothing but pure chaos.

How's that working out?

Anarchism=no rulers not chaos. Just because some need to ruled does not mean that we all do. You can choose your leaders I will be my own.

That is another thing the right doesn't understand. Their motto is to make government so small as to flush it down a toilet. Weaken the government and private tyrants will take their place. Ayn Rand said that government should not run the roads, but private industry should. Could you imagine having a road system completely governed by ceos?
Ceos telling people they don't like not to use their roads or having their own private investigators instead of state patrols?
But the people on the Right don't want small government at all. They want us to have a huge military policing the whole world. A government that tells us who we can have sex with, which positions we can use, and which drugs we can use. They want a government that tells us we can't abort, and in some cases can't even use birth control.

Just because you can choose a new master every few years does not make you any less of a slave. Also, just because you have a need to be controlled or need the illusion that you have the ability to control others does not mean that I have to follow the masters that you choose. There is no such thing as "freedom" when you need a permit to do as you are told.
All that "you own yourself freedom past present la la la" stuff is nice babble in some coffee shop conversation, but let's deal with reality. What if you have something, and somebody else wants it?

So you don't believe that we "own" our children?

You do get that the sentiments related in that video are mostly just fantasies of a utopia that does not exist, right?

I do not know how to explain why **anyone** who made less than 200K a year, would vote ReThuglican.
I seriously do not know why anyone would.
The ReThugs had the White House for roughly 20 of the last 30 years or so.
And they have, at every junction, promised an end to abortions, an end to women's votes, an end to equal opportunities for minorities, an end to Social Security, an end to medicare/medicaid, an end to science-only in science class, and so on.
Yet none of those things has happened.
What **has** happened is more tax cuts for the super rich, more corporate welfare for the giant corporations, less regulation on the economy and environment, and deregulation of campaign contributions--creating some of the most wealthy americans that congress has ever seen.
The ReThugs lie to these simple minded idiots--and they just lap up the lies like it was Coke or Pepsi or something.
So many republicans seem not to notice the difference between liberalism, socialism, and communism.

I don't **have** to imagine it! I **live** it here in Tulsa!
We've had a ReThug mayor for a bit, now-- and the roads are literally falling to pieces.
The major throughfares, which get federal money are doing okay-- after several long stretches were **torn** up after having **just** been resurfaced by private enterprise-- which was using substandard concrete in violation of the **federal** rules.
By the most unlikely of chances, the scoundrel got caught-- but he absconded with his profits and disappeared. I do not think they ever caught up to him.
But several stretches had to be ripped up, and **re-done** because of that lovely "private enterprise"...!
Without oversight and **regulation**?
Chaos is the result-- as greed becomes the **only** thing driving people's efforts.
Roads built by greed? Fall apart because of using crap processes.
Roads built with strong oversight, and testing at each step? Last for decades--because the testing ensures the product is strong and durable.
Trust... but **verify**.
One of the rare things old Ronnie-Ray-Gun got right.
I have got to save this post. My boyfriend is someone who converted from being a liberal to being a libertarian. He now insists that private enterprise is the shyt and that government is the problem. He preaches the same type of anarchy that Ayn Rand espoused.
Reps and libertarians love to insist that government can't do anything and that private enterprise always does better. Of course, they ignore the fact that private enterprise has often pleaded for help from the government. They also ignore the fact that government sponsored research, primarily for the military, has been a huge factor in technological innovation.
The public library systems in this country functions much better than most businesses.
My twin reads alot about early America. He told me that when railroads were being built, private industry tried to build and maintain. But the costs were so great that many of them went bankrupt and government had to come in. This in what libertarians and reps want us to return to.

You are right. They only care when big business is affected. Otherwise they love to impose their thinking on everyone else.

Hypocrite. I had one of those ultrasounds this summer and it was less invasive than a pap smear.

Well... they do not notice much of **anything** apart from the babble-speak nonsense they are fed.

They assume that **all** ideas from communism are automatically bad--even though the US has been using many of the better ideas from communism since it's inception.

Roads, for one thing-- we, as a public, "own" them collectively-- we pay taxes which, collectively, keep the roads in repair. A very **communistic** idea. Socialistic too, in some ways.

That's one example.

Public schools are another.

Some city sewer systems are still another-- paid for by local taxes, kept going by the same.

These people simply have no clue.

My favorite TeaBagger "protest" sign?

"Keep your Government off my Medicaid!"

....WTF?

Yes-- unlimited, unregulated private enterprise **always** fails eventually and goes back to greed and bullying.

Always--without fail. The late 19th and early 20th century Trusts are an excellent example. Remember Standard Oil? And how the government had to bust that up?

And before that-- the old rail road monopolies? Once they had it all locked in? Things fell apart very rapidly.

What sticks in my craw? The oligarchs who perpetuated all those and more-- remained filthy rich, and passed that ill-gotten riches down to the next greedy and self-important generation.

We are dealing with the descendents of those oligarchs even today, in the TeaBag party of the super-rich.

... and of the super-callous and super-**not** compassionate.

.. meh.

Yep. But you can be sure, that the richest of the rich are **never** forced to participate in their intrusive laws.

Someone who's monthly income is in the millions? Never has to worry about an abortion-- they can always fly to where ever, as needed.

To bring out the worst in a theist, one must merely ask them for proof of god.
