Quite a few on several Topix forums do--I've expressed these views before and received very positive responses. You appear to conflate critical thinking with conservative indoctrination, not independence of thought. But perhaps I misunderstood your original post and you'd care to restate or clarify it.

Speculation on your part, you have no way of knowing what one determined armed man could do, not necessarily me. Your plan appears to be just let him kill as many as possible, i don't accept that. I'll wager if your daughter was going to be number 12, you'd think differently.
True, but you have no way of kowing that you wouldn't slaughter innocent people either. One of them possibly your daughter.

No, my plan would be not to go to midnight movies.

Again, your own points are right on target. But if I were armed and in the theater when something like this happened, I think I would try to crawl down the aisle to the front, shoot from the floor, empty my clip, and then stay low while retreating. I'd assume anyone else doing the same was a friendly and that anyone firing toward me or the audience was not. Moot point, though, since I never go armed...
Honestly, it's hard to say what one would do in that situation without any previous experience. It is a nice thought, but there are so many varibles that could come up, it's just hard to say.

I myself do not carry in a theater, but I do carry. I have been doing so for twenty years plus. In that time, I have only ever drawn my weapon once, and that's all it took to end that problem. Shooting wasn't necessary. At that point I was ready to fire. Let me tell you.... Thinking that you may have to end someone's life is not a great feeling, even in self defense. Now, combine that with someone already shooting, in a dark theater, with innocent bystanders around, than throw in some possible other shooters, and this guy walking/moving, smoke from whatever it was that he threw, I can't say exactly what I would do, and I certainly would not try for a head shot, leg shot, etc.... It's a nice thought to think that someone could have dropped this guy before he got too far, but the reality is MUCH, MUCH more complicated than most people can concieve. IMHO, it's better not to pontificate on what "I would have done". Unless someone has experience in that kind of insane situation, one simply cannot know.

You're quite right, of course. Every decade or so, I tend to revisit the decision I made in my youth to neither own nor carry firearms, and so far, I've never seen it as a good option for me. over the course of those four decades, I've never been in a situation that would have been better if I were armed. I just don't see the point--for me anyway. This incident doesn't change that.

My plan too, but that's not the point. We can either wait for the cops and take whatever the toll ends up being in dead people or perhaps one capable armed man can try to stop the shooter.
The next time it won't be the midnight movie, it will be somewhere else.
Yes it is the point. Unless you have had extensive training in those situations you are more likely to do more harm than good. You can delude yourself all you want. I guess in your mind you could have taken out Walt Whitman with your trusty Glock 17 or Sig P226?

BFD, doesn't change the fact that you have no idea whether you could have any effect in the same situation. You fantasize that you would but that's all it is, a fantasy.

So do you still think you could have taken out Walt Whitman with your concealed carry handgun?

Now, Spiderman, he could have gotten Whitman up on top that tower. You're a big Spiderman fan, aren't you? Got his underwear and jammies i bet.
You miss the point here Buck. No 2 situations are the same. You might get the guy invading your home with minimal loss of life. But in a crowded smoke filled theater, you most likely do more harm than good. Who's to say that the police that show up don't mistake you for the shooter?

Good read!
Written by the Russian Pyotr Rachkovsky with an obvious Polish surname!

The Protocols of the Elders of Zion = Fiction?

I think not it seems to be a Semi truth of fiction.

Much like Orwell's 1984 & Animal farm were a Semi truth of fiction.
