There *are* atheist women well known in the atheist community. But as usual, the religitards lie and pretend there aren't any intelligent women - not atheist women, and not among the religious.

Religitards want to subjugate, demean, beat and rape women. The bullshit linked to above is just another example of religion claiming women are second class citizens, claiming women are incapable of being intelligent...something atheists are *not* doing.

I don't think 'New Atheism' is misleading. It is only relatively recently that it was possible to openly disbelief in god. John Lennon didn't repeat the 'bigger than Jesus' joke for fear of hurting sales (at least non-UK sales). Only 54% of USAmericans still say they would vote for a non-believer President and this remark has never been withdrawn, to my knowledge...
Atheism isn't new and it neeedn't be seen as a movement.

Dawkins had to speak out when whole classes of UK children were leaving school dismissive of evolution and 'believing in' creationism. Religionists did nothing.

It seems that women are the greater part of Church congregations too (in the UK), despite the institutions frequent and obvious bias against them. Perhaps women are less confrontational and more often less conscious of the problems such superstition causes.

There are many non-religious women.

Perhaps it should concern us more that there are relatively few prominent female scientists in the UK. TV science figures (e.g Prof Dawkins and Prof B Cox) tend to be male and perhaps that's another reason why prominent atheists tend to be male too. The main criticisms are less of religion per se than to religious damage to science (creationism); the law (religious courts); education; etc. Religion needs to stay out of science, politics, the law, education and moral questions.

Oops! I meant to write, "I think New Atheism is misleading".
I think the decline of religion and superstition (belief in god/s) is a clearer way to look at what is happening than a 'rise of atheism'.

There are female atheists such as Madalyn Murray O'Hair who was the founder of the American Atheists 'Hair

Ayaan Hirsi Ali although I don't like her on every issue she has one of dramatic life story's out of all the atheists in recreant times

Marlene Dietrich a great example of how not all atheists are witting and campaigning but also how long atheism has been around with us and how even celebrities can be atheist

Wendy Kaminer a lawyer who help stop Anti-pornography laws on the grounds of First Amendment and the legal dangers, the reason why this is note worthy is because this came from a Feminist who worked with "Women Against Pornography" which puts her in a interesting position. And if that doesn't get your attention then who about the fact that she was member of the board of the ACLU, and then in 2003 become a critic of the ACLU leadership and thus was in the centre of the "ighly publicized effort to prohibit board members from criticizing the ACLU" and even wrote a book on it "Worst Instincts: Cowardice, Conformity and the ACLU"

This was found in less then a minute, so why don't we hear more about female atheists. Well the news just doesn't care about them which us ignorant of them, you would think that those who hate the ACLU (i.e. fox news) would make a great deal out of Wendy Kaminer even today but they don't. You would think that Ayaan Hirsi Ali would have been in the same news room as Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens all the time but yet she is not.

There is no large scale sexism in the new atheists! But there is in the news rooms... It is the media's fault that there are no poster girls with our poster boys, and so there will never be women in the new atheists until the media act like their there.
