Atheism is the rejection of deity. It's an affirmation that there is no god.
I certainly never made such claim although I don't follow a religion.

In general usage, atheism can simply mean 'disbelief in a supreme being or beings'.

I don't call myself an atheist, particularly either. Atheist, agnostic or secular are only required due to the persistence of religion.

Let's not dodge questions though. I don't believe in any Abrahamic god(s), any of these....

and if you don't, then you are as 'atheist' as me. The difference between us seems to be that I think that religion can be challenged under suitable circumstances - including on Topix.

Name calling is the last resort of an Evangelical Atheist?
Atheist trolls get rather defensive when people disagree?

Atheist trolls,

Not normal atheists,

<quoted text>I think Rio means well and he actually tries to be thoughtful, unlike some on Topix. I feel he is being hypocritical though. He can insult me, but not justify his accusations.
He also claims to be tolerant, but doesn't hesitate to denigrate with the best of us a person with whom he disagrees.
He professes not to be religious. He is representative of an interesting phenomenon - the attitude seems to be "of course I'm not religious myself, but.." and then to defend every religious viewpoint while insisting any criticism of religion is some sort of incitement to violence (as if religion isn't divisive and violent enough).
He wants to 'give the Falkland Is; NI; and Gibraltar away', as if it is in UKGov's power to do that and those people have no rights to representation, nor even self-determination.
And having incited all that potential for violence and conflict, he wants to see himself as promoting peaceful policies that would make the UK more like Switzerland or Sweden.
I actually agree with Rio on many points,(e.g. EU membership) but he didn't justify any of his attacks on me,(personal or otherwise) and the policies as he advocates them would lead to more violence than the world could handle.
Religion = superstition
(I am entitled state this - Rio, if you can tolerate reading it).
Rio just trolls. He is perfectly happy to represent both sides of an argument and has no moral character in the slightest.

E.g He wants us to give away the falklands which he claimed we didn't have a valid claim on and only took by force. After proving to him that in fact it was Argentina who didn't have a claim and who tried to take it by force he switched his position to the exact opposite of what it had been previously. Suddenly it was fine for a country to take territory by force and the rights of the inmhabitants were irrelevant.

E.g2 He advocates giving away any territory anyone else has any claim on and encouraging anyone to try and take British resources. At the same time he wants us to get rid of our armed forces to make it easier for people to do this. He claims he wants us to emulate switzerland (who have every single man in the country conscripted into the army and who profiteer from genocide) and Sweden (who have had almost all adults go through military training as well and who sent troops to afghanistan)

He is a hypocrite, a liar and a troll.

Not quite. Most atheists do not affirmatively say there certainly is no god, merely that there is no evidence to prove that god does exist. The existence of god can't be conclusively disproven. To atheists, the probability of god is so low, it can be disregarded.

Agreed.

Whilst I know 100% there is no all powerful compassionate god because we have evidence of avoidable suffering, I've never claimed that there is no possibility that some form of inferior deity could exist.

If only there was some evidence for it.

That's no proof.

The proof would be in demonstarting how the universe started, how life came to be, where intelligence comes from, etc... all without any sort of supra natural or divine intervention.

Science has helped us to uncover many mysteries, but so far it hasn't solved the question of the origin of the universe. In fact, the more science advances, the more the issue becomes like an elephant in the room.

That atheists don't want an answer is not surprising; they have gambled to deny everything.

Basic logic for you: The burden of proof lies upon the idiot stupid enough to claim god exists.
