Pat Robertson Concludes Sikh Temple Shooting Because 'Atheists Hate God'

There are 202 comments on the www.mediaite.com story from Aug 6, 2012, titled Pat Robertson Concludes Sikh Temple Shooting Because 'Atheists Hate God'. In it, www.mediaite.com reports that:

On his 700 Club program Monday morning, televangelist Pat Robertson came to the conclusion that Sunday morning’s Sikh temple massacre in Oak Creek, Wisc., was ultimately because “atheists hate God.”

“What is it?” Robertson wondered aloud. “Is it satanic? Is it some spiritual thing?”

I'm glad that you like America better than India. But you seem to be attributing that to Christianity. See if you can identify what parts of America you like, and ask your Christian girlfriend to show you where they come from in her bible.

For example, the secular government that you just thanked America for. Do you think that that is a Christian value? Let me share with you their first four Commandments:

[1] I am the Lord, your God.
[2] Thou shall bring no false idols before me.
[3] Do not take the name of the Lord in vain.
[4] Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.

Christianity's model for government is theocratic. Secular government is a secular humanist value, not a Christian one. The Christians are continually trying to erode the secularist wall that separates their church from everybody's state, as they are now with their attempts to pass an amendment to the constitution forbidding marriages other than those that their priests say their god endorses.

What else do you like about America? Freedom? democracy? Egalitarianism? Limited government? Ask your girlfriend to show you where those ideas can be found in her bible as well.

You might prefer to raise your children without religion, especially if you think that they might like a career in the sciences. Have you heard about Christian schools? They have their own textbooks for science that are illegal in public classrooms. Seriously.

I apologize for the triteness of this statement...but at least the haters won't find a church, mosque or temple or other house of worship where to open fire on atheists. The new culture target after gender preference equality...atheists...easier to stay out of the crossfire.

That said...my heart goes out to all victims of hate not just the "big" ones.

I have my own suspicions why the shooter did what he did. I believe he is a home grown bigot that is intolerant to religious freedom. That hate and bigotry is the common denominator that is also among militant atheist as well as other extremist groups.

So one can safely say there is indeed a connection between this shooter and hateful, intolerant militant atheist.
There's much more of a connection between the shooter and hateful, intolerant, militant Christians.

Perhaps Robertson hears voices in his head and thinks God is talking to him even thought the ideas are clearly from his own fevered imagination. Remember Boobquake?

He also seemed more than a little confused during his 700 Club talk. Alzheimer's? For his sake, I hope not, but those dazed looks of momentary disorientation are hauntingly familiar from Reagan's appearances during the last year of his presidency.

At any rate, if he was ever a serious voice in American political discourse, he is no longer. He should retire from public life before he becomes a running joke.

Oops!!! Too late.
Alzheimer's for pat would be soooo appropriate.

Actually the second one is 'thou shalt not worship other gods before me'. This is because Ba'al and other gods that were just as real were compitition.

Yes, Pat Robertson has made a fool of himself again.
I don’t agree with you on much but I do agree with you on this matter. Pat needs to hang up the ole spurs and leave the cattle drive to someone else.
I tend to agree. How can an atheist "hate God"? They'd have to believe in Him to hate Him, right? Which means they're no longer atheist.(Unless he meant that they hate the idea of God, or that others believe.) Not to mention the fact that there's been nothing in the press about this nutjob's religious beliefs one way or the other.

I will cut Pat a little slack just for being very upset at this mindless violence. Maybe he just blurted out some nonsense in frustration. I'll have to admit it does make you wonder what He is thinking when God allows stuff like this to happen. No, I don't "hate God". I'm just puzzled and a bit upset myself.

I suspect the shooter was just a dumbshit who thought he was killing Islamist. Not that that's any less evil or crazy. At least he did us the favor of killing himself so that no more public funds will be wasted on a trial or prison for that idiot.

Bride burning and female infanticide is very common in India even until today. India has one of the lowest female:male ratio in the world.
Yes, Europeans were pagan before. Yeah but then after the Black Death era and reformation in Europe had transformed the European continent.
Yes I believe in secular govt and religion should be kept privately in their own homes and thanks to America for that.
I am Sikh but normally only older generation and relgious Sikhs keep beard and turban just like some orthodox Jews. I have no issues now assimilating in American society except for my first couple of years, but I guess every new comer goes thru that phase.
I have a Christian girlfriend and I don't care if she goes to church or raise our kids as Christians, if we decide to get married. Life is far better than India, where Hindus keep oppressing its minorities and murdering them in thousands especially in the Punjab and Kashmir region.
I would have thought a low female to male ratio would increase the competition for brides and make bride burning nearly as counterproductive as it is inhumane. But you think the ratio is low at 48.7% in India? Try living in Qatar with its 32.6% or UAR with its 31.0%! The seven nations with the lowest female to male ratios are Islamic, which presumably means that taking multiple wives is permissible, which means that in most of these countries, more than half of the male population will never find a bride. No wonder they are willing to blow themselves up!!!

I like American values like egalitarianism, limited govt and of course individual freedoms. U.S.A is one of the most individualistic countries in the world. You can see the ranking in Geert Hofstede Cultural Index . Individualistic person like me fit better in America. Btw, I am not really a temple going Sikh neither do my girlfriend is a church going Christian. I was raised in Malaysia a South East Asian country and my girlfriend also moved here together with me from Indonesia. Malaysia is extremely socialistic and has many institutionalized racist policies, I lived in "socialism environment" for many years and I can bet you it is really screwed up.

I do realize Christianity's effort to mix religion with govt, but it is very minimal in a developed country like America, but overall America maybe more religious than Europe because of its large Hispanic/Latino minority.

I dont really know about children because I dont have any kids yet, but I am preety sure I won't be sending them to a religious school whether Christian or Sikh.

Well in suicide bomber heaven they don't actually marry the 72 just use as slaves for their personal desires. Plus in Islam the wife isn't a prison warden because the husband beats her.

We've had them largely under control since the advent of secular democracy in the late eighteenth century. Their incursions into the secular state have been largely trivial except for their tax exempt status. They've graffitied the Pledge of Allegiance and the currency, but that's just an embarrassment, not a real imposition. I doubt anybody comes to Jesus because Uncle Sam says he trusts him.

Americans are very much more religious than Europeans, and it has little to do with Hispanics. The whites in the middle states tend to be zealous and evangelical Christians.

Good thinking. The Christians will promise to make your children better people if you'll turn them over to the church for indoctrination. But just look at what comes out of those churches, and how little they seem to mind.
