"My atheism, like that of Spinoza, is true piety toward the universe and denies only gods fashioned by men in their own image, to be servants of their human interests." —George Santayana

Nope. Not even slightly.

It's not your fault you don't understand Hitchens. I wouldn't expect you to reach that high.

Given your history of posting irrational and nonsequitur replies, I just don't believe you understand Hitchens.

"Satan disguised himself as a snake
and through some persuasion got Eve to partake.
So God cursed the serpents though they committed no crime
And left the Devil unpunished which seemed perfectly fine.
For infinite wisdom, this god hasn't a clue.
If incompetence were a landscape, it'd be a spectacular view.
So sleep tight little serpent, enjoy your afternoon nap,
And take heart in knowing that you got a bum rap."

I wonder who stole it from whom.

Plagiarizing famous quotes and presenting them as his own original thoughts is also a favorite ploy of Terry Pratchett's. IOWs, his characters are genius so that makes him one too.

Give a man a fish?

Don's is definitely the older quote, thanks, I'll add it to my list.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day ... give a man a religion and he'll die of starvation while praying for a fish.

or is it -

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day ...teach him how to fish and he'll sit in a boat a drink beer all day.
