Sometimes you have to beat on a stone, in order to create what you really wanted-- the tiny rock-chips that fall to the wayside. The stone itself is not the goal-- the rock chips are.
If you only concentrate on the single stone, you'll think you are not making progress.
Progress is seldom made by leaps and bounds, but by the slow accumulation of tiny grains of sand, gradually shifting that stone into something better.
