Atheism Shouldn't Be a Crime

If you think it's rough being an atheist in America, consider the situation in less open societies.

Religious cults don't have responses to atheist arguments, so they resort to what cults do best: commit violence.

The strongest argument is the one that ANSWERS questions best. It is NOT the one with enough physical force to prevent questions.

Either cults can't understand that fact, or they understand it too well. It certainly explains their willingness to murder those who choose to think.

Quote, "... blasphemy should not be criminalized, but celebrated. Those subversive individuals with the bad manners to remind us that no idea is sacred - that governmental defense of any theology necessarily weakens the legitimacy of both the government and the theology - should be thanked for making us think and for reminding us that we live in a free, open society.."
My feelings exactly.

atheism is not a crime..... rather a philosophy championed in ancient Greece.

No,'atheist' is just what religionists and the superstitious call non-believers..

Philosophy is usually positive...

Most modern non-believers (i.e. the non-religious and people of no religious faith) naturally tend to prefer humanist philosophies rather than ideological or superstitious dogma.

Atheism and Democracy have many definitions. Many of these are found in different languages.
Talking with atheist friends recently found degrees of atheism and agnostic beliefs intertwined, in some individuals.

Atheism is a simple disbelief in god.

Now you know, you can stop lying about it.

Agnosticism isn't a belief, it's an acknowledgment and honest admittance.

People seem to embrace different views.....often move from belief to non belief back to belief throughout their lives.

To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.

That is one of the problems, no one single label can ever accommodate all aspects of any living thing, thus, agnostic atheist or gnostic deist are perfectly acceptable, but a lot of people are just too stupid to get that. My full "label" would be something like "agnostic atheist asexual programmer knitter pale skinned human ape ...." ... you get the idea. The people who want to force false dichotomies or segregation tend to only focus on one label and ignore all the other aspects of the being. It's sad.

Agree that labels often fail.

News from Boston today is terrible.

I will bet you a beer of your choosing, that the nut-jobs behind this, will turn out to be True Believers™ of some stripe or another.

Non-believers tend to recognize that life is but once and once-only.

And therefore, tend to avoid taking life if possible.

It's True Believers™ who are willing to follow the example of their ugly gods in their ugly "holy" books:

** Punish and murder the >>innocent<< to try to get to the allegedly "guilty".

The bible is chock-full of examples, as is the quoran.

They are ugly books.
