Actually, development of critical thinking skills is the *main* cause of atheism. Lack of belief in the devil is merely a by-product of that thinking process. He is partly right, though. Once reason banishes the fear of the various boogeymen religion conjures up to keep the believers in line and their wallets open, the game's pretty much over. Ultimately, religious belief is induced by fear of death or punishment, rather than by a compelling, believable positive story.

So the disbelief in one supernatural being leds to the disbelief in other supernatural beings such as God.
I think there is a good argument atheism here as if this is the case, the amount of evidence most be the same for both God and the Devil. However this should not be as God is more powerful and so must be more obvious.
So either God and the Devil are equal (which we know can not be) or both do not exist (which so far can be)
Ergo both God and the Devil do not exist.

Disbelief in God often comes because God has not revealed himself to all and also so many people who call themselves believers behave poorly towards others.

The Vatican has publicly denied that the Pope preformed an exorcism [to please Brits and other westerners?] however Pope Francis has made statements previously indicating that he does believe in a literal Satan [to please the more superstitious and the less educated?]

..... Atheism means not believing that a God exists, and quite possibly the same people also do not believe that the Devil, or Satan, exists.
..... It is NOT true that because somebody does not believe that the Devil exists, he or she therefore does not believe that God exists.
..... In the bible it says that God is a spirit; do you believe that there are many other spirits?
