Today's Mass Gospel Reading:
Jesus and his disciples came to the other side of the sea,
to the territory of the Gerasenes.
When he got out of the boat,
at once a man from the tombs who had an unclean spirit met him.
The man had been dwelling among the tombs,
and no one could restrain him any longer, even with a chain.
In fact, he had frequently been bound with shackles and chains,
but the chains had been pulled apart by him and the shackles smashed,
and no one was strong enough to subdue him.
Night and day among the tombs and on the hillsides
he was always crying out and bruising himself with stones.
Catching sight of Jesus from a distance,
he ran up and prostrated himself before him,
crying out in a loud voice,
What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?
I adjure you by God, do not torment me!
(He had been saying to him,Unclean spirit, come out of the man!)
He asked him,What is your name?
He replied,Legion is my name. There are many of us.
And he pleaded earnestly with him
not to drive them away from that territory.
Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside.
And they pleaded with him,
Send us into the swine. Let us enter them.
And he let them, and the unclean spirits came out and entered the swine.
The herd of about two thousand rushed down a steep bank into the sea,
where they were drowned.
The swineherds ran away and reported the incident in the town
and throughout the countryside.
And people came out to see what had happened.
As they approached Jesus,
they caught sight of the man who had been possessed by Legion,
sitting there clothed and in his right mind.
And they were seized with fear.
Those who witnessed the incident explained to them what had happened
to the possessed man and to the swine.
Then they began to beg him to leave their district.
As he was getting into the boat,
the man who had been possessed pleaded to remain with him.
But Jesus would not permit him but told him instead,
Go home to your family and announce to them
all that the Lord in his pity has done for you.
Then the man went off and began to proclaim in the Decapolis
what Jesus had done for him; and all were amazed.

I'm starting to think there may be a god,but a god that protects the paedophiles and pederasts of the catholic church.
The cardinal of the largest Roman Catholic archdiocese in the United States was stripped of his duties in an unprecedented move by his successor, who described the churchs actions during the growing sex abuse scandal as evil.
Cardinal Roger Mahony had retired with a tainted career after dodging criminal charges over how he handled pedophile priests.
Gomez said Mahony, 76, would no longer have administrative or public duties in the diocese. It didnt appear that Gomezs actions would affect Mahonys position in Rome, where he can remain for another four years on a counsel that selects the Pope.
So he is 76 and being relived of his duties? So they are retiring him?
Why isn't the filthy bastard in jail?

Did you see this? It's footage of Steve and Janet Ray's current pilgrimage to the Holy Land (one of many he's made). I'd love to go there:

This is not a denial...For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
This is the truth...However, sinning by the Catholic pedophile cadre and other abuses by priests and nuns, against defenseless children,is a way of life....you have proven that is not so in the denominations you named...thanks.

"Mr. Unbelievable" !!! The biblically and Historically PROVEN One True Apostolic Catholic Church is "not" in the numbers game. The 42,000+ "numbers game" all began at the Reformation as I will refresh your "ever so (blank and busted ) memory!!
Since the Protestant reformation in the 16th century, there has been an on-going of dividing, fracturing, and splintering of one denomination after another, who "have never", NOR "will ever"agree on (anything) regarding the (true authenticated and proven) interpretation of the bible handed down by the Early Church Fathers in 382,393 and 397 AD.---- We as Catholics, continue to embrace, hold fast and adhere to the "true interpretation of the bible" from which we all know that our Protestant brothers and sisters in Christ choose to rely upon their own on (anti-catholic) distorted, contradicting and conflicting "personal opinions" --as the "final authority" by rejecting the TRUTH handed down by Jesus Christ to His Apostles. Here is a partial list of the 42,000+ conflicting , inconsistent and contradicting "hodge-podge" of "personal opinionated" denominations since the beginning of the Reformation: This list does not include the small % of agnostics and atheists who, like most Protestants, rely on denying of over 2000 years of historical and biblical (proven truth) in order to keep their bible only (relative truth) beliefs intact"
.Luther (eliminated some original books of the bible)
2.Zwingli (eliminated and rejected the Eucharist)
3.Knox (threw out some of the Sacraments)
4.Wesley (each one rejected something to start a new denomination

We can't put the guy in jail. That's for the civil authority to do, or not.
Personally, if they can prove a charge of perjury, I hope they go after him with everything they've got.
It does not seem as though there is much hope of charges on anything else, due to statutes of limitations, although the right creative argument about criminal supression of information might be made to pass muster.
My suspicion is that Benedict may summon him to Rome (if criminal charges are not files), where Mahoney will be just one of a dime-a-dozen Cardinals, rather than one of only two in LA.

When will it end????
LOS ANGELES (CA)
National Catholic Reporter
by Tom Roberts | Feb. 1, 2013
Friday's announcement that a retired Los Angeles cardinal and an auxiliary bishop have been disciplined because of their roles in covering up priests' sexual abuse of children is a step in the right direction, says a lawyer long involved in representing victims -- but, he adds, the discipline is only a step, not an ending.
Attorney Tony DeMarco said Friday the discipline was forced by the court-ordered release of documents that detailed the conduct of church leaders, and a careful reading of those documents will show that some leaders who put children at risk "are still in place."
The release of approximately 12,000 pages of documents detailing the sexual abuse of children by priests and cover-up by archdiocesan officials was a long-fought victory for DeMarco, who pursued release of the documents, which the archdiocese fought to keep sealed for 10 years. He has represented more than 400 victims of abuse, some of whom were part of Los Angeles cases.
An agreement by the archdiocese to release the documents was part of a 2007 settlement of 508 cases for $660 million. But immediately, the archdiocese took legal steps to block the release, a process that was complicated and delayed when a retired judge who was hired to review the documents recused himself from the process.

Mark 3 21 is definitely a hard verse.
One begins by thinking, "How can Jesus be out of his mind, because He is God? That would be like saying God is out of His Mind?"
But upon thinking about it. There are two answers that come to my mind. This first is that God's Mind is beyond our understanding. And what he is doing is beyond what his family and kin can understand.
Secondly, the concern for the safety of Jesus by his kin and family, as well as his health are the cause of such an outburst.
We can see something of this concern by Peter toward Jesus, on two occasions. The first is when he doesn't want Jesus to die, and the subsequent saying of Jesus for Satan to get behind..., and the second is when he cut off Malchus ear in the Garden when protecting Jesus....
I think we all have that "instinct" to protect Jesus. But it is best to let him lead, and we follow. He knows so much more....

Just more of your "smoke blowing" anti-catholic bogus "personal distorted opinions"..... You have become an "expert" at creating "thick emission pollution" from the "hot air contamination" every time you make a comment!!!

A religion based on "It is my opinion" is not based in the Truth of the Bible. Being religous, and in a religous family is not a guarantee of eternal life with God.
Get back, read the Bible. Pray to understand that Jesus is the actual Son of Man and Son of God, and not some alter-ontological creation of God replacing Adam....

...Some child protection advocates say with the safeguards instituted by the Church, children are safer in Catholic schools and Churches than in any other organization.
Michael says. You are right Anthony. Can you imagine in your church if this was still the 1980s/90s when much of this damage was going on, behind the backs of you and all the followers.
..Quit patting your church leaders on the back. The safeguards are ONLY in place because priests/bishops got caught and the number of cases were so overwhelming (worldwide) they couldn't do anything but cave in to public pressure to do what is right.
We are seeing the ugly results today from what has happened in the past.
The very first time the church leaders are dialing 911!
Its going to take decades to clean up the entire mess.
Lets hope they do.
#420052 Feb 4, 2013
Oh...LOL You are a pretty thick dude. No scholar protestant, secular or Catholic with the facts support your moronic contention. All you need do is check the insurance statistics which show greater abuse in Protestant circles, which do not include black churches or the many churches who have been dropped or could not afford it and the delusional ones who think abuse is not possible in their churches or amongst their members. The sinless ones. You really should learn more about abuse and try to remove your blindfold when you do so. I think there is a good reason the SBC would not keep a list of offendors and record keeping is hardly the formal and meticulous documentation of the church. I have no problem weeding out offendors. I have a problem with angry self righteous ignorant bigots like yourself who throw stones froma glass house. If it makes you feel better to ignore your problem the children are the ones who will suffer. However, clearly you have the best interests of children in mind. ;0 Brilliant stuff Oxbore. Its really sad that people like you will never get it, because as I said your hatred of Catholics is more important than the children. Sad

More spin and denial. Specifically...
"... even the Bible was once on the blacklist. Translations of the holy book ended up on the bonfires along with other ``heretical'' works because the Church, whose official language was Latin, was suspicious of allowing the faithful access to sacred texts without ecclesiastical guidance."
We've know all the excuses.
By refusing to provide official translations, the RCC was very effective in banning the Bible from 99.5% of humanity.
Then came the terrible Reformation, with things like human rights and democracy. It's been downhill ever since.
Forgive those who went against the RCC and ultimately gave you the right to vote.

I support all victims of crime. I will stand against anyone with criminal intentions taking advantage anyone who ever they are.
and it is the tip of the iceburg.
192 priests/bishop litigants just in the Diocese of Los Angeles.$660 MILLION. Does that sound trivial?
Victims? Over 500. The tip of the iceburg.
I posted to you before that all the dioceses in Minnesota have had their share of abusive clergy. What the hell is going on??
These are the very clergy who taught people like you and me Anthony when we were young that we could never receive the eucharist with such sins on our souls, but for some reason that never applied to those clergy that abused and those that covered up these sins. They gave themselves the eucharist at every mass they said with full knowledge of what they were doing.
We know you love your church. We know the people are hurting, but unless you stop being made fools of and start speaking out to your church leaders, this will not go away for a long long time, and its nobodys fault but your own for being SILENT.
#420055 Feb 4, 2013
Thats good news!
What part did you play in instituting these measures?
Can you imagine how much damage has been done over 17 centuries that this has been going on in the church? Its written right into the Canon Laws and papal documents since the 3rd century that this has been a serious problem with some clergy.
1700 years later we see some light at the end of the tunnel.
Seriously, I believe the worst is behind us. A tough lesson to learn, and it just goes to show. You can't trust anyone until you know for sure.
