As a bishop carries the crozier as a symbol of his role as shepherd that does make those who live in his diocese sheep. They are not being ordered to be blind followers though by this particular bishop which you would know if you had bothered to read the article and not just its title. Read the article and then comment some more.

I'd do as you suggest, but anything he says doesn't affect me.

A shame their mission isn't the Gospel....

"All Catholics must..." is a farce. The pope says "All Catholics must avoid artificial birth control," but most ignore the pope. The church says, "All Catholics must oppose abortion," but their notable Catholic politicians support it and commune. The pope says, "All Catholics must oppose homosexuality," but their seminaries, but their own admission are havens for gays and it is now affecting the priesthood. The pope's solution -- grandfather the current gays but not enroll anymore. Yeah, right! The church says divorce is not allowed, but that doesn't hold true for the famous and wealthy like the Kennedys. The clay feet of the leadership of RCC are as obvious as the clay feet of the leadership of TEC.

You described the state of the church exactly! Thank you.

Pax, I'm surprised at you. I know you're not homophobic (nobody should be) which I take means you're open-minded. But you kind of turn on me whenever I don't 100% agree with any belief of yours. We're ALL entitled to our own opinions.

I thought fondling young boys was their mission? My how times have changed in my lifetime. Years ago you were almost guaranteed to be molested. Now better law enforcement has reduced their pedophilloic ways so much they changed the mission statement.

As you are not a practicing Catholic what he says has no reason to affect you unless you find some truth in is words.

I did not turn on you. All I did was call you out because you commented on the title of this topix article without actually reading the article. When you post a half truth or untruth about a Catholic teaching I will try to correct the error. If you have a fact based disagrement with a teaching I generaly don't comment.

I do like it. I have no reason not two. We have our good moments on these threads and some bad ones. Not enough bad ones to cause me to reject your good wishes ever.

Thanks Pax; I've got to try to remember not to say things that might offend you because of your faith. I think VERY highly of you!

LOL - Do you know I don't know whether you're male or female? And you don't have to tell me if you prefer anonymity.

The Bishop is certainly correct in exorting Catholics to promote the mission of the Church-- that is what he is supposed to do, to lead those in his spiritual care.

I am a Protestant, but I greatly admire the Catholic Church. It is disgusting that so many people attack members of the clergy simply because they may disagree with particular theological doctrines personally.

Perhaps some Muslims or atheists do not like Catholic teachings-- that does not mean the Bishop is incorrect!

The whole pedophile thing is really what makes us despise the RRC.

I certainly didn't mean to post a half-truth. My problem is and always has been that I read way too fast and often am not comprehending the material correctly.

When I read for pleasure, I deliberately slow myself down a LOT.

Happy holidays!
