The Shame and Betrayal of Maine's New England Values

Full story: lezgetreal.com

“If you put it up to the vote of the people, we’d have slavery again.”- Jesse Ventura. Maine voters have decided that they would rather be bought out than uphold the traditions of liberty and freedom that have made New England a haven for those seeking rights away from the tyranny of others. They have bowed their heads to the nameless, faceless financiers of campaigns which continue to sew bigotry, hatred, and suspicion of their fellows.

This isn't over yet.......but what would one expect when the same bigoted folks from the Yes on 8 campaign were brought in to run the Yes on 1 campaign.

The United States Supreme Court will have to step in and decide this issue.

The GLBTQI Community either are American Citizens or were not......AND IF WERE NOT THEN WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY TAXES OR FOLLOW THE LAWS.

Rocco,
Though that is not a bad idea......I plan on figuring out a way to fight this UNETHICAL VOTING PRACTICE.

Rights shouldn't be voted on......and I am thoroughly convinced that if we left things up to the voters.......we would still have Blacks riding on the back of the bus, schools would still be segregated, inter-racial marriages would exist and the list goes on and on and on.

And people wonder why Black Americans rioted.

So what? You are listening to the lies and innuendo and think somehow our right to wed is going to harm your children??? What about your children that are gay? What message have you sent to them? Their high suicide rate will continue and increase, their depression and turn to alcohol and drugs will continue because you won't accept gays. The harm to them is on your head.

What a pathetic bunch of fools. You think it's contagious, that if a kid knows that gays exist, that they will turn gay? That's not how it works. If you are gay, the message that the voters have sent is that you are no good, you are not as valued as others. Such BS. Not ALL the children are thanking you today.

What is wrong with these voters? Those who voted for this measure would be characterized as follows: less educated, more gullible, believe everything they hear on TV, can't think for themselves, and they heed every lie and falsehood espoused by two very evil organizations, the RCC - you know, the ones who brought you the Inquisition and witch burnings and who can just barely afford to pay off the millions of dollars they are losing constantly with their buried abuse cases - and that paragon of stupidity the church of the angel moron-I.

maybe when the self-proclaimed "gay community" stops trying to compare and contrast their sex revolution with slavery, Jim Crow, and women's rights, than more people will feel sympathetic. Maybe you should start comparing your plight to Jews and their Holocaust...that might work.

*sigh* Sad night for Maine. Looks like the Supreme Court is going to be inundated with cases from several states in the upcoming years. That's what I'm turning my eyes toward.

In slightly better news: Ref 71 (the "everything but marriage" law) looks like it has been approved here in Washington. It is no secret that this is a step toward full equality. Look for a bill to be introduced in the state legislature in the next two years calling for the title marriage and full equality. We're still moving forward, folks.

In other encouraging news, Annise Parker, and openly lesbian woman, took the lead in votes in Houston for mayor (my hometown)- however, it looks like she is facing a run off election with the runner-up.

This is NOT a "sex revolution." It has to do with my worth as a person. I believe my worth is equivalent to yours. Who are you to tell me otherwise? If the American public had voted on any group's rights, women and blacks, none of them would have passed. Why are we different? Why are these questions even allowed on a ballot?

As we look for a place to retire, I'm afraid Maine has just fallen off the list. I'm sure the Mainers will be pleased that I won't be moving there. I'm obviously not as good as the majority of them.

Exactly. 100 years ago society at large, and especially good christians, were just wanting those silly, pesky, not-too-bright women to stop asking for rights and get back in the kitchen and make some cookies for those kids.

Civil rights should not be up for a popular vote. It's called tyranny of the majority and we should be protected for it as our constitution promises.

Honestly I agree with you. I simply disagree with the "gay community" comparing murder, malice, and rape to marriage. Women were the slave to white men in this country until 1920...and blacks were the slaves to white men until 1866ish...and the virtual slaves until 1964. Neither of the aforementioned even owned the rights to their own BODIES. For homosexuals to compare marriage to slavery is sickening and plain delusional. Why not compare you plight to the Jewish Holocaust then too? I mean, you seem to easily and wantonly disrespect the history and current situations of American women and blacks. Do it to everyone then.

We WERE victims in the holocaust, too, in case you forgot.

So I guess the meaning of "all men are created equal" in this country really means, "all men are created equal until they are born." After that, it's up to the whim of the populace. Put it on the ballot. Reserve some rights just for heteros. Sorry gays. You are not as equal as others.

Who's comparing marriage to slavery?(Granted, some people may think so). But the fact is, we are victims of persecution, and it has been going on since the 15th century, and has always been religion-based. It is a question of equality. Because I am not picking cotton in some white man's field, I'm not persecuted for being who I am? Get real. Our pain is very real. The hurt being done to us is very real. The hatred that some groups direct toward us is very real. None of us chooses this, it is the way we are.

I'm still in shock...every time this happens.

What the hell is wrong with people that they feel they have the RIGHT to vote civil liberties OUT for a minority, any minority.

THIS SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED ON A BALLOT. PERIOD>

Where is Obama? Why hasn't he spoken out. Why hasn't he LIVED UP TO HIS PROMISES? Why hasn't he PUSHED FOR EQUALITY FOR EVERY AMERICAN? I'm OVER his excuses and procrastination.

Why hasn't Maggie Gallagher's US citizenship been stripped from her for having spearheaded the stripping away of her fellow AMERICANS civil liberties?
