I'm no longer Catholic, but I do believe a fetus is indeed a person.

I still don't see why the world will listen intently to an organization who has murdered people, pillaged fortunes, raped children and forced entire cultures to believe in this nonsense. For the past nineteen hundred years this cult has manipulated country after country to do its sick and vile bidding. I mean really! With a swipe of its papal hand, it magically deleted Limbo from existence, though millions were said to have gone there.

This is bull$#! people. Wise up!

They do whatever they want to. And expect its sheeple NOT to question it. I will question whatever I want to. The reason the church discourages the questions is that the church has no valid answers and they don't want their flock to become aware of that. The RCC makes things up as it goes along.

..... In a law suit it is important to try to get the judge(s) on your side so that the verdict will be in your favor.
..... And if it would probably help to declare, for example, all females to be actually males, produced out of a male rib (or whatever), then maybe someone would use that as an argument too.[LAUGHS]

The headline's actually misleading.

The hospital didn't propose that a "fetus isn't a person"-their lawyers pointed out that a fetus isn't a person under Colorado state law.

Dan, thanks for clearing that up - but no matter who said it, if a fetus is not a person, then what is it?

Lucky me - in hosp again, sugar went way too low - 20 - I went completely unconscious, husband saved my life by calling paramedics and cops - was in hosp. for 4 days, my sugar is usually HIGH - I was really out of it. Home today and feeling better.

I hate diabetes!!!!!!!!!!

You are certainly welcome to ask me any question you wish. I will do my best to answer, and to show documentation for my answer.

Dan is quite correct.

The lawyers put fourth the argument that, under Colorado law, only those born alive are labeled "persons," and only those labeled "persons" have any rights under the law.

Therefore,(argued the lawyers), it is inconsistent for the government to hold that the hospital is liable for "wrongful death" as that can only be applied to the death of a person, and the government has enacted laws which state the subjects of the suit were NOT persons.

The lawyers did not say whether they (or the Church, or the hospital, which is NOT owned by the Church) agreed with the law. They argued that the law, taken in totality, has to hold that the hospital is not liable.

More recently, the Colorado bishops and the hospital administration have gone on record that they were not aware of this court filing, and the bishops have directed that a "Catholic" hospital should NOT be using such an argument. The hospital admins have directed their lawyers to withdraw that filing, and NOT to make use of any argument which implies or states outright that a fetus is not a person, REGARDLESS of what Colorado state law has to say on that subject.
