I would like to get a discussion going from other readers of the Urantia Book or those who are interested in joining us.

I'm familiar with the book. Would love to discuss it ... probably learn more from you, actually!

To me the book pulls a lot of the loose strings together for me both in science, religion, and philosophy.

I spent a long time trying to resolve to the satisfaction of the representation in my mind by the Spirit of Truth concerning questions provoked by perceived contradictions in the biblical record. I searched for many years, was baptised in more churches than I can remember, cornered pastors...finally getting one to admit that "He really didn't know", but that was what he was taught in Seminary. The most perplexing question to me was the concept of predestination.

The Urantia Book answered to my satisfaction all of these perplexing questions after I finally got enough self confidence to actually read it. Yes, I must admit that I had TUB for almost twenty years before I sctually read it. I had read a couple of brief excerps (flipping Pages),but reading about purple people, midwayers and the like did not inspire my confidence and I actually entertained the idea that it may have been inspired by the devil.

Once I read it though, I attained to a world view that perfectly coordinated the spiritual and material realms and find no contradiction between science and religion.

Dear Barry,

Your reaction to the Urantia book is similar to mine. I find no contradiction between science and religion after having read the UB. It was like getting a college education, where all the subjects (philosophy, religion, cosmology, science, and history) were cohesive and made sense to me for the first time. This really helped me form my whole life view since I read it in my early 20s.

Your post and history leading up to actually reading Urantia is very helpful at this point to me, Barry. Thank you.

A friend of mine has the book and I think the tapes (?) and tried to get me interested a few years back. Like you, I read a few things and thought it off the wall at the time.

Since then, however, life has shown me various "things," and I find this new thread perhaps not coincidental.

I'll be meeting with that friend tonight, and may ask him to bring along the book. Since this thread started, I've looked up the Urantia website and have done a little bit of reading. Now it's starting to make sense to me.

What is that saying, "When the student is ready ... "? We'll see. I DO very much appreciate this thread regardless!

You people are a blessing to me. I though I was the only one who felt like you do after reading the book. I have downloaded the book and listen to it in the car and evertime i listen I get something new and eye opening. If you are reading this thread and have not read the book or do not know what the book even is....please go on line and read or listen to it. These people speak the truth. IT is truely a life changing experience. Thanks, keep the comments going.
Has anyone felt like they have actually communicated with their though adjuster. I feel I have, or maybe its just that I want to so badly.

I know the adjuster is constantly trying to guide, but I too am frustrated with an inability for direct contact...patience and contiuous effort will sometime achieve success.

I've had a few experiences. Although I don't know what "adjuster" means, I kind of think I do.
And if I'm correct, then yes. Several experiences.

I could only wish I had read it when I was twenty. I am now envolved in researching a book designed to overcome prejudices in the Christian community and hopefully leave them free (as Jesus intended) to read TUB or any other source of truth w/o the fear I ran up against. A whole lot of research is needed to address objections from all directions and I am presently 72 yrs old...fighting to stay alive long enough to get the job done. The process of perfecting even with the spirit guide is slow and to our limited viewpoint also tedious. There is no time to waste.

I think we must all get past "religion" as we know it. I think if i am reading it right that we will be evolving when we learn to get past out animal instincts. To all become Childred of God. It sounds really funny but I think that John Lennon's Iamgine was where God wants us to go. Listen to the first few papers frome about 10 to 19. Its all there. God's plan and what he wants for us. We have not yet on this planet gotten past all our petty human emotions. This includes myself also. Im no better than anyone else, but at least now I know what the Father wants. Love God, Love others, Love yourself.

I can say that the UB has changed my perception of my life, and that of lives her on the planet. Having the opportunty to read the book did present a new thought or two, however the information matched my belief system completely and created no conflict with my up bringing and Christ centered life. It would be interesting for folks to share how the book appeared in their lives.

I find that the central point that it is making for us is that we are to move past our animal instincts, past hate, past war, past anything that seperates us. It is up to us a free thinkers as to how to do that. Any ideas?

I think the part of the paper 134 entitled "The Urmia Lectures" give us a clear idea of the direction in which we should proceed. Creating a spiritual & philosophical social organization that would foster and encourage open dialog between all God knowing peoples. Social support that would empower individuals to glean the highest spiritual concepts that they can comprehend and then to act as individuals within the worlds social and political systems to promote God's will in the world.

Spiritual Unity Pg 1591 of the 1955 edition: "when did I teach you that you should all see alike? I have come into the world to proclaim spiritual liberty to the end that mortals may be empowered to live individual lives of originality and freedom before God. I do not desire that social harmony and fraternal peace shall be purchased by the sacrifice of free personality and spiritual originality. What I require of you, my apostles, is spirit unity--and that you can experience in the joy of your united dedication to the wholehearted doing of the will of my Father in heaven. You do not have to see alike or feel alike or even think alike in order spiritually to be alike. Spiritual unity is derived from the consciousness that each of you is indwelt, and increasingly dominated, by the spirit gift of the heavenly Father. Your apostolic harmony must grow out of the fact that the spirit hope of each of you is identical in origin, nature, and destiny."

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Sagittarius

It's difficult to keep your mind on what you're doing today because it keeps wandering off in all directions. There won't be much you can do about this except to be aware of it, and preferably to postpone doing anything very complicated or important until you're less distracted and absent-minded. Unfortunately, you won't get very far with it at the moment.
