Please note that the contest is with organized religion and not faith. Mr. Maher was raised Catholic and not Jewish. He co-producer, Larry Charles, was raised Jewish.

Being against organized religion is not unusual in current times, especially for Catholics who feel the Church has not supported its members who have had problems with the clergy.

Maher said comedians have always made jokes about religion. It doesn't sound like he's joking. Those of us who have faith also believe that he is not the one who has the last say.

Maher stands to note all the things "wrong" with Christianity and why faith is for people who "wall up their mind." So, what he is saying is that the millions of people around the world, including all or at least MOST of presidents (past and present), leaders of other countries and just somewhat insane--and he is "normal?" I'm not sure I see the logic in that. "In faith there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who don't." Blaise Pascal
Even though Mr. Maher and the rest of the people who follow his beliefs will laugh, I will continue to pray.

AMEN!

Why am I not surprised the people's comments above are so HATE FILLED! Surely not what Jesus intended. Just like the murder of all those innocent people in Iraq in the name of god. A bush quote: "God told me to go into Iraq". Christianity should be changed to "Hateianity".

I've always been amused by Bill Maher's pretensions of Political Incorrectness when his targets are so VERY politically correct. Religion is a 'safe' target. Well, not Islam so much...

There is of course nothing at all hateful in remarks of this kind. Interesting how it's always Christianity that's picked out for 'hatred' never Islam.

that's right. they must be crazy or ignorant. at one time everyone thought the world was flat (crazy or ignorant?).

Imagine what Jesus would think as Bush sends 4500 American troops (and counting) to kill hundreds of thousands of Iraqis for a lie. A preventative (not preemptive) war? I think he would disapprove. Not sure he'll make it to heaven.

you people better get your head out of the sand (or Bible) and have faith in man, because I'm afraid God is not going to help. As long as you have that crutch nothing is going to improve.

so ugly believe in anything but himself ? If that lil **** has a

that he found his odd bod, and ugly face weren't acceptable to
normal women. His anger at religion, probably stems from the
awful looks he was dealt.........a face only his mother---er I
mean, only the Devil could love."

So I guess this is some kind of LOVE letter? You prove Bill Maher correct. Christians like you are in denial.

If I was in a Muslim country I would be talking about that religion. It's the christians here in this country forcing their believes upon Americans in THIS country. Your no different then the fundamentalist Muslims anyway. You have this narrow view of life.

Thankyou Bill,
For having the courage to bring this to light. I have not seen the film but cannot wait as I am sure it will speak to every one of us out there who were force fed ideas from a culture too afraid to ask questions and challenge the status quo. Come on you crazy religious believers out there--do you not watch the discovery, history, science channel? Are you not up to date with what has been and is still being discovered about organized religion? What are you afraid of. God striking you down for committing a sin. I was told to watch my back because god was gonna get me if I was bad as a young catholic girl--I am still looking--he ain't coming and I have been a very bad girl. Is that kind of thinking worth having faith--don't think so. Organized Religion is for the weak and the sheep of our society. Make up your own minds, don't let the catholic/christian churches dictate to you how you should think. Think for yourselves.

I've had problems with organized religion for many years now.....my biggest problem has to do with all the hyprocrites who say one thing and then do another in the name of GOD.

I've also admired Bill Maher for his political views and welcome his comedy on religion...hey, I say believe what you want but done belittle me for what I do not believe.

What I like about Maher is that he is an equalopportunity offender (Though he does not offend me personally). He exposes the hypocrisy that some have regarding their faith.
As far as I know, God doesn't want us killing each other in his name (If he did, then he's as sick as the rest of them) yet more people have been killed in the name of religion then for any other reason.
From the crusades and before to the Iraq problem and beyond. When does the madness stop? When will these fundamentalists on all sides wake up and realize that an ideology should not be worth killing or interfering in other's lives for.
Now I know that there are some organizations based in religion that actually help people. They are not what I am referring to. I refer to those who either kill, mame, or just won't stop harassing the rest of us in the name of their faith.
If it wasn't for these organized religions and the extremisis who have hijacked them, we'd probably all be a lot happier.

I have never found him funny. He reminds me of the jerk in high school who thought he was a comedian and laughed at his own asinine jokes while looking around the room to make sure others were laughing with him.

That's probably because everyone knows that Islam is a religion based on hate and violence. And few of their followers try to hide it.
Many Christians, however, try their best to mask their hatred and disgust in the guise of being the moral authority.

Maher has his faith too. He makes statements that take a great deal of blind faith to believe.

Typical Moral Authority response.
Unfortunately, Mutt, you could be right. Far too many children are abused at the hands of their so-called religious leader. It's quite an epidemic.
