The St James Fire Department were up to late yesterday still trying to ascertain the cause of an early morning fire which razed a section of the oldest Jehovah's Witnesses kingdom hall and an adjoining abandoned building on Queen Street here.

If property in Jamaica, in the best part of town is anything like the cost of Ocean property, it could be over 15M.

When the call goes out for volunteer workers, the best carpenters, plumbers, brick masons and workers always go to help rebuild or repair Kingdom halls for their brothers in their time of need.

Being selfsacrificing is the foremost trait of a true Christian. We are all very proud and happy to be loyal subjects of Jesus as our reigning King in heaven, and the head of the true Christian congregation.

(Revelation 7:9, 10). . .After these things I saw, and, look! a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes; and there were palm branches in their hands. 10 And they keep on crying with a loud voice, saying:“Salvation [we owe] to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb.”

interesting. Doubtful ..if property is all that fantastic.. one would wonder why there was a empty building behind them.. In the Oldest section ..generally denotes slums in many places..

Yeah, they saved the library.

But the "library" consisted of only six books.

Three of them had not yet been colored.

I hate to burst your Watchtower induced bubble but $15 million is equivalent to approximately $167,400 U.S. dollars which is a fair appraisal due to the age and location of the edifice.

It is in a middle class section of town which is far different than a middle class section of town in a U.S. city.
Jamaica is still considered a 3rd world country with an average income of less than $80 U.S. per week.

Back in the early 1990's 2 congregations shared that hall, Montego Bay South & Montego Bay North.

Male JW's from the U.K. and the U.S. along with some from the Virgin Islands helped local JW's build it.

For that part of town it was an elaborate building, black & white checkerboard tile floor and white ceiling fans. It had fluorescent lights in the ceiling.

No A/C but it didn't get that hot during the Sunday A.M. Watchtower Study.

The Sunday afternoon Watchtower Study during June, July and August was almost unbearable though.

It didn't have a telephone back then so if you needed to make a telephone call a sister in the South congregation lived next door in a green clapboard house and had a telephone you could use.

Brother Scudamore, one of the elders in the Montego Bay North congregation had a lot to do with that kingdom hall being built and also with the North Coast Assembly Hall about 40 km east of MoBay which was built in 1992. It had a thatched roof supported by huge wooden pillars and wooden bench type seats made out of unfinished logs.

Going to Jamaica is not as self-sacrificing as going to some other places. I wish I could be of help, it would be a good excuse to go there for a few weeks. It would not be a sacrifice for me. And surely there would be time to enjoy the wonderful climate, the beautiful water and beaches, the Caribbean music, and some fabulous jerk chicken and tropical fruit!

But many of those who do go there to help will do it out of self-sacrifice of their own time and money, even if they do not have an abundance. That is the way it always is when a call goes out that our brothers need us. And, no doubt, the nearby building that started the fire will benefit as well.

There is nothing else on this earth to even begin to compare with our brotherhood, our organization.

I am sorry to learn that. My late Father helped build the first Kingdom Hall here. It was later sold, and is some kind of lodge now.

"It was later sold, and is some kind of lodge now."

I'm surprised that it is not a Christian church now.

The majority of the kingdom halls around here that get sold by the sole owner and deed holder are sold to Christian churches.

BTW, the same entity owns all of the kingdom halls in the United States.

Do you have any clue as to who that woukld be?

Each Kingdom hall owns it's own property, and each Kingdom hall is responsible for it's own upkeep.

You are confusing the Catholic religion which is owned by the Vatican, which owns all Church property and all Catholics.

You think Jehovah just saw how corrupt the congregation was and saw the only way to keep the congregation clean was to distroy it!

I don't know about now but 20 years ago the North Congregation was filled with kind brothers and sisters who were morally upright. They were just tricked into believing unscriptural beliefs and really believed that they were doing God's will by hawking books for by the Watchtower Publishing Company.

Those who become Jehovah's witnesses and then no longer want to be in subjection to the direction of Jesus' brothers on earth, make themselves enemies of Christ, and do not want anyone else to have the hope of eternal life in paradise; losers belong to the realm of Satan now.

Any organization that lets theology trump fact is not a 'church' - it is an institution of indoctrination. We could get so lucky that all of them would be razed.

. What does this scripture have to do with those you are refering to.. First off.. You assume that people are practicing sin.. It seems that you have to look at those that no longer hold down a seat at the Kh that way.. YEt! proof is befor you daily that many of those people are pointing you towards GOD and his son.. NOW ! why pray tell would they do that if they were so full of the sins you claim they are in??? Seems more like they would be striving to pull you away from God and his son.. Some how they just don't fit the mold the WTS...has cast them in..

This article doesn't state if the amount is 15 million in US dollars or Jamaican dollars.

In either case. It is a tremendous loss.
