"Berahi" means "Lust"....it is not even love.
Love and Lust is "Cinta Berahi". It sounded problematic to society.
Of course my Malay language isn't as good as yours, but I doubt the older generations will name a beach "Beach of Lusty Love..." That would be beyond my imagination. I like Cinta Berahi, it is beautiful without any thought of 'Lust'.

Berahi - My translation is "Passionate". Pantai Cinta Berahi used to mean "Beach of Passionate Love". Passionate isn't a bad thing.

Whatever it was, it has now become a abondoned beach - nobody wants to go there anymore...

When you have one ayat that says "befriend not jews and christians..." and how muslims worldwide treat non-muslim minorities, it is harder to convince people that Islam is not racist. In my opinion, malays are not racist, but Islam is.

Dear Just Me,

You must have been referring to this translation:

Yusuf Ali translation for example: Quran (5:51) O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust.

You'll get the understand you currently are holding. But real meaning of the word is Arabic original version and not the Yusuf Ali Quran.

Here is Roman alphabet writings (still not the original since we may introduce grammatic errors along the way) of what is the original version:
"Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo la tattakhithoo alyahooda waalnnasara awliyaa baAAduhum awliyao baAAdin waman yatawallahum minkum fa-innahu minhum inna Allaha la yahdee alqawma alththalimeena"

Lateral translates to: "Literal You, you those who believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians (as) guardians/patrons , some of them (are) guardians/patrons (of) some, and who follows them from you, so that he truly is from them, that God does not guide the nation, the unjust/oppressive."

It does have a different meaning to the Yusuf Ali version.....

Quran 5:51 Literal translation: "You, you those who believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians (as) guardians/patrons , some of them (are) guardians/patrons (of) some, and who follows them from you, so that he truly is from them, that God does not guide the nation, the unjust/oppressive."

meaning....we can be friends but not guardians and protectors.

The word "Some" is the key here....

Some "Jews" are guardian/patrons of "Christians" and vice-versa. Only some....as we all knew Jews and Christians were enemies of one another....but hose that were friends to each others are not about holding up Judaism or Christianity...they are Materialistic cults.

Materialistic cults that lead to zionist, Illuminati, or even the masonic.

These people are the builder of unjusts and oppressive nations.

Most leaders of Muslims secular nations of today report (are proxies) to these clans of cults Riba based capitalist dressed as "Jews" and "Christians"

The oppressive nations:

God forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for God loveth those who are just.(Quran 60:8)

God only forbids you, with regard to those who fight you for (your) Faith, and drive you out of your homes, and support (others) in driving you out, from turning to them (for friendship and protection). It is such as turn to them (in these circumstances), that do wrong.(Quran 60:9)

O ye who believe! take not for friends and protectors those who take your religion for a mockery or sport,- whether among those who received the Scripture before you, or among those who reject Faith; but fear ye God, if ye have faith (indeed).(Quran 5:57)

Malays are not racist, but the UMNO organization and its leaders are. Their constitution is a living proof of that.

Islam cannot be a racist based on this ayat:

Quran 2:213:

The people were one nation , so God sent the prophets, announcing good news and warners/givers of notice , and He descended with them The Book , with the truth/correct to judge/rule between the people in what they differed/disputed in it, and no (one) differed/disputed in it except those who were given it from after what the evidences came to them, oppression/transgression/corru ption between them, so God guided those who believed, for what they differed/disputed in it from the truth , with His permission , and God guides whom He wills/wants to a straight/direct road/way

Yusuf Ali Translation:

Mankind was one single nation, and Allah sent Messengers with glad tidings and warnings; and with them He sent the Book in truth, to judge between people in matters wherein they differed; but the People of the Book, after the clear Signs came to them, did not differ among themselves, except through selfish contumacy. Allah by His Grace Guided the believers to the Truth, concerning that wherein they differed. For Allah guided whom He will to a path that is straight.

I wonder it is that Muslims don't just make ONE translation that IS correct? Any why not toss out all those 'unreliable' hadiths?

Dear Trisha,

The world is about the epic encounter between Truth and Falsehood. The Truth from the teaching of Muhammad, Jesus, Moses, and all the prophets and Buddhas (peace be upon them all) was in the mix of tussles and clash between Truth and falsehood. The results are all the different interpretations of the religions we are seeing today.

The Quran translations and interpretations we are seeing today is not the Quran. They were just one's attempt to understand the Quran from another language. It will introduce a lot of error. It is Ok because it is correctable since the original Arabic version cannot be corrupted. That is always the final reference of any dispute.

It is just a process of learning and we should not stop it.

That is not acceptable, sorry.

Muslims, by now, should have ALL translations unified in ALL languages.

And it's really past time that Muslims have done this. If they were truly interested in anyone who doesn't understand Arabic, they would have done this centuries ago.

Anyway, what about all those 'unrealiable' hadiths? I can't count how many times people here have quoted hadiths only to be told they are not 'reliable'. Well, really! Muslims need to get a hold on their own writings and dogma and make them clear for everyone.

The best solution is that we learn Arabic ourselves. I am learning Arabic myself. Last night I met an American Muslim, who speaks Arabic well.

I have two American friends who just recently reverted to Islam and they speak Arabic well (much-much better than me). The first brother (been in Islam just 6 years)from Philadelphia, now resides in Yamen. Another one from NY, married a Malaysian girl (with 2 sons and a daughter) now resides in Penang.

Fake hadiths were introduced by the enemies of Islam long time ago, and they are indeed a challenge. With the spirit of Truth from the Quran, we will sort that out. The problem is that there are still more enemies of Islam dressed as sheikh and muftis with self interests.

The many versions of the Bibles too can be sort out by reference to the Truth from the Quran.

Mawar, it just shows how unattractive Islam is to chinese Malaysians eventhough its has exclusive privilege in Malaysia to spread? For so many decades, only messages of Islam can be heard on TV, Radio and any public media, and yet so few converts from non muslims... even with advantages offered to those who convert? Ever wonder why Malays are in panic, and Adam Deen went to Malaysia to talk about this:

http://www.topix.com/forum/religion/islam/TD5...

"The challenge to muslim minds - IIUM Malaysia. Adam Deen "

(youtube video has now been removed)

The speaker expressed concerns while acknowledged that Christianity is actually outgrowing Islam in important parts of the world, Africa, for example, has grown from tiny 7% of population in 1900 to almost 50% in 2000 (blaming Christian's "vast wealth" and muslims not putting enough effort).
