Energy and the new mileage tax on the fuel efficient cars.
I have to say that taxing by the mile although on the surface might make some kind of progressive sense in reality it is not very intelligent. The assumption is that the cunsumer isn't paying any tax because they aren't purchasing gasoline Opps I'm sorry 'fossil fuesl'. Well when you plug your progressive green car into the wall socket and siphion off electricity you already pay a tax on that energy. Since all taxe dollars go into a 'general fund' what difference is there between gas tax and energy tax dollars? Nothing. The is absolutly no reason to use a 'mileage tax'. I believe in going green and the people that do go green and are helping the environment they should be rewarded by getting some kind of a break. My reasoning is two fold,#1 fuel efficient cars weigh less and therefore do not cause as much damage to the roads.#2 Our land benifits from the cleaner environment. This was difficult for me to write because I am the most hated demographic on the face of the planet by the left extremists I'm white, middle aged and I own two 4X4 trucks plus several classic vehicles And my 'cylinder index' is 72. If the green people want a green environment there has to be a reward for those that choose that life style PLUS it would have the tendency to get the RIGHT wing people (like myself) get on board faster with the cleaner environment. I would consider a green vehicle but I refuse to pay more taxes for that decision. Companies should offer free recharge stations in their parking lots. Free from tax free from energy costs. Offer incentives. That is how to push the green movement. Who in their right mind (no pun intended) would pay more and get less? This could be a great oppurtunity for the left to really make a difference but instead they are going for the power move by grabbing more and more power though more control and higher taxes. America doesn't win with this kind of thinking.
