Louisiana Derby winner Friesan Fire, who finished 18th as the betting favorite in the Kentucky Derby and then followed with a 10th-place effort in the Preakness, will be sidelined for a couple of months because of a stress fracture in his left foreleg and a chip in his right front ankle, co-owner Vinery Stables announced in a news release Thursday.

This facture was most likely caused during the Kentucky Derby Race...this poor horse should of never raced in the Preakness! This horse was really beat up during the derby and the owners new it! I was so upset when I heard FFire was participating in the Preakness. I hope the racing industry will start protecting these poor animals. We love to watch racing, but not at the expense of the horses!! This is disgusting!!!

So, now you are a qualified vet? I doubt Porter and Jones would run any horse if it wasnt 100%....Triple Crown race or any other.

You PETA PEOPLE need to be put in your place, and fast.

I am not a "PETA PEOPLE", so you'll have to find one to insult! If you have done any research regarding this horse you would of known how beat up he was after the Kentucky Derby. I was concerned about his injuries right after the race and hoped he wouldn't be entered into the Preakness. You should read on the Ken. Derby website regarding each horses condition right after the race...I believe it is still there. It states what injuries FFire had at that time! So as far as your doubts...Jones & Porter's decision to race him when he wasn't a 100%...well I guess FFire's injuries have nothing to do with being a 100% it!!!!!!!!!! Stupid.

I know Larry Jones and Rick Porter and have race with them in the Delaware circuit. They DO NOT RUN UNSOUND HORSES. They may not be the biggest outfit but they do right as far as Vet care and staying ahead of preventing possible injuries. He was cut up in the Derby as well as 4 other horses., this does happen on a muddy track. FF was examined by 2 Vets.Rick made a statement that the horse would NOT run the Preakness unless he was cleared to run, XRays showed NO abnormalities, and had an excellent work.
Yet your facts right. Horses get cut up all the time in races nothing new, this is why trainers put run downs on their legs.
There is no such thing as a 100% sound horse DON'T exist.
You play sports you get hurt be it animal or human

Trainer, arguing with these PETA type people is a waste of time. Direct them to a PETA sight and let them console one
