I think I remember him saying in an interview he would like to do that the last year of his career or something

I was sorry to see him hook up with Hendrick. Don't think JJ or Gordon give him any respect. Being friends with the owner was never enough reason for Jr to go there. And last year when he missed a couple of races in the chase, I found it offensive that Gordon said he should have raced. Give Gordon a concussion and see if he changes his tune. After all, another blow could prove devastating or even fatal.

<quoted text>Why should the #3 be retired? If any number should be retired it should be the #43, however, to retire any number because of a certain driver would be disrespectful to the rest of the drivers. Dale Earnhardt was a very, very good driver, there is no question. There is also no question that during his prime Dale Earnhardt was the face of NASCAR and was allowed to get away with more than any other driver, at the time. Who can forget Felix Sabatas painting the #42 Coors Light car exactly like the #3 car saying that if the #42 looked like the #3 then perhaps NASCAR would allow his driver to drive as rough as the #3. Dale Sr. had a good run, I am not sure he was as good as the current Jimmie Johnson but he was good. Everybody wishes to forget that during the mid 90s the #3 was not really a factor and only starting in 2000 and heading into 2001 did the #3 Regain a competitive edge as it once had.

The really sad thing is that the speculation in the garage in 2001 was that Earnhardt and Childress had built a bunch of new cars for the #3 and 2001 might be a last run for a championship before he would retire as a full time driver and go to DEI to get Little E on the right track to become a successful NASCAR driver (something that he has never really done).

Few people remember that Jr's first number #8 was the number of the late two time and defending NASCAR champion, Joe Weatherly who was killed at Riverside while leading the 1964 points battle in a quest for a third straight championship.
Agree..
Retiring numbers in NASCAR does not work and fans want to see the 3 again one day....other than little e running it, it will put a lot of pressure on whoever gets in....living up to hero status is impossible... Harvick could have done it and probably should have been put in the 3 to lower the pressure from Austin inheriting the number...

Once again your lack of knowledge proves your ignorance. Gordon said that is what he would have done, however he also added "That's not the way it should be" an gave Jr. praise for having the courage to do what he did.

Dale Jr. went to Hendrick because anybody in the garage area would have done the same thing, and drive for the best team out there. Everyone knows that Juniors shortcomings have nothing to do with equipment or respect from teammates.

How much respect do you thing Burton and Menard would give him at RCR?

How do you know Jr. is or isn't a dirtbag? Do you hang out with him? Do you know him personally? No. Just jealous that a man can be good looking, famous, rich and get to do something exciting and fun for a living while you sit behind a desk or clean toilets for money. Get a life and find something better to do than hate on a man YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW!!!!!

I noticed your sorry ass driver in nascar did not win the dirt race either. He needs to retire from nascar and just watch his son race.I bet Junior could do as good on a dirt track as Blaney does every week trying to run nascar.
