Have you been able to report this to anyone - you can call the governors office and report it on-line or there should be a website to report unhealthy conditions. Let me know what you find and I will support your effort any way that I can. My son is there and he is having seizures - never in his life has this happened

My boyfriend is serving time right now, and the black mold is still bad, but now he had been noticing "WARNING ASBESTOS" signs in the kitchen and other parts of facilty.... that place is so crooked..... its sad..They should be helping them turn a new leaf and become productive citizens, not making them bitter and angry

get ahold of the ACLU for Indiana(civil liberties union)first of all, then find out who the pro-bono lawyer is for the city you live in and call that attorney and he/she will be able to give you the names of some Prisoners Rights Advocates.I started a petition against westville so would appreciate it if all that have a story that can be confirmed about westville could sign my petition.Thank you and God Bless all of you and good luck in all you do.

It is now July of 2012. My son has recently been sent to Westville. He was housed in the 'medical' area for a couple of weeks, where he reported to us that there is black mold, asbestos, and peeling lead paint, in addition to multiple broken out windows and poor to non-existant ventilation. Were any of you successful, so far, in getting the aclu or pro-bono attorneys? My son has a life threating medical condition, and he also is not getting proper medical treatment, nor the proper amount of food, or even the items that he has purchased from commissarry, including a special care package of food that I bought for him 3 weeks ago that cost me $56 for about $15 worth of grocery store items. I would like to hear from any of you that have any information. Thank you, and God bless....

Mary,
This ARE CURRENT CONDITIONS!!(as of Aug. 6, 2012) I'm sorry to have to tell you this...I have been told that the only way to get things done as they SHOULD be for any inmates is to have a lawyer that is threatening lawsuit...ALWAYS pray for your son's safety and protection. That is the first line of defense that's available. Keep posting anything you learn, and I will do the same. God bless....

My brother just died from a lung mass believed to be from asbestos and black mold from that hell hole. He came out reformed but died just after his year mark anniversary of freedom. This place needs to be shut down!!!

Guys, I work at Westville and I have read your comments. I thought it was mold too at one time until it just wiped off with a rag. It was dust and dirt. Mold cannot and will not be removed by a simple rag. I had an infestation of black mold in my house and I had too have it destroyed. I know what it looks like. Yes Westville does have asbestos but they are inside very sealed pipes and only in the basement tunnels. NO threats there and NOT on dorms. The guys honestly do not like to clean up after themselves. At any given time you have 2-5 inmates cleaning up after 100. The bathrooms are always terrible because any time you get a pissed off person they are busting it up or breaking something in it. Don't let these men lie to you. It's not as bad as you think because Indiana doesn't play games. If it was bad they would shut down the building and reconstruct it. All of the dorms are made of CEMENT and BRICKS! The paint is NOT LEAD being they quit making lead paint back in the 70's. The paint they do use is very cheap and it's not any type of lead. Now they do not have heat most of the time and that is because the heating system is made up of a very old system of heating the buildings and when they have to order parts they take months to come it. That I will give you. It makes anyone upset. In the summer there is only about 4 fans for the entire dayrooms. They don't ventilate much. I think they should be allowed to buy and use their own fans since there is no air conditioning on any dorm accept the infirmary and there are only guys up there with life threatening conditions only. The nurses are privately there not paid by the state. They do work hard. As hard as they can taking care of all the inmates. MOST of the time they DO NOT put in a health care request form. They are too lazy. I watch the nurse every morning pull them out at 3am and there is maybe 2 or 3 forms in there daily and about 100 inmates come up too you through the course of the day begging for healthcare and refuse to go through the proper channels. It takes the doctors less that 1-2 days too see them once they put in a health care request form. And believe me there is no shortage of those forms. I personally lay them out every day for everyone too see. It's not as bad as you think it is and if you don't believe me come work here for a minute and you will see the truth for yourselves.
