My son is waiting to be sent to Walnut Grove RID program. Can anyone give me any information regarding the conditions of the place since the lawsuit has started. How is the RID program?

Wish I could offer you some positive information, but I haven't heard anything. My son is there...not with the RID program, but has not seen any changes yet. Supposedly they are still being investigated....personally, I don't foresee any major positive changes for our children for a while. They would need to do a complete overhaul of the facility (fire and rehire) and being that it is located in the middle of nowhere, it also will be difficult to find qualified, certified and ethical individuals to manage and run the facility. Who knows, maybe when your son goes there, things won't be too bad. I would think, hope and pray with all the media and investigations going on that at least some actions from the guards, etc. have lessoned. Hang in there...it is sooooo very hard on us I know....

It would be great if you contacted the Southern Poverty Law Center as well as like the American Civil Liberties, Department of Justice and even the governor of MS. Let them know in detail what your experience was and so forth...advocate maybe for those who are still there and continue to be treated inhumanely on a daily basis. Glad you made it through...stay out of trouble eh and focus on your future goals

I was an inmate at walnut grove for a crime I never commited. Mississippi is a terrible place to catch a charge of any severity. I saw, first hand, the brutality from the staff and fellow inmates. Beatings. Rapes. Murders. Lies. Gambling from the guards themselves on the inmate's abilities to fight and/or kill. You can say we deserve what we get, but no human deserves the treatment we received. I was pepper sprayed for others getting into fights. For not waking up on time. For not running fast enough. One of our MTI's, whose name shall not be mentioned, sprayed the vile shit in our paths during one of our PT's in heat that exceeded 100 degrees. Yes, I was a member of the RID program. I was there with captain smith, case manager morehead, and many others. I puked my guts out trapped in a cell with pepper spray, my face on the floor trying to breathe under the door as my 'superiors' laughed on the other side. I was given 30 seconds to eat my meals for days at a time. I became malnourished. I spent two weeks blind with two scratched corneas because I was refused my right to be taken to the doctor. I had the skin on my palms burned off from scorching pavement after hours of pushups,'side-straddle-hops'(j umping jacks), and one nasty exercise they liked to call 'the bridge'. But we deserved it, right? Go to hell. It's easy to say that when you spent one of the hottest summer's in Mississippi history in the air conditioning. You didn't have to witness nor endure. Enjoy your pathetic life, while you judge without thought.

I went to the rid. the program i went to at wgcf was way different from what these other people are sayin in no way am i saying it wasn't brutal or inhumane. i had my tray taken from me and thrown on the floor . i was forced to live in a cell with sewage covering the floor for two weeks. i went days without shower . i seen things i didn't think were actuallypossible for a prison which is supposed to be a form of justice enforcement to get away with . this prison should be shut down. the mmti s that the have running the rid program have no qualification to run the program other than they have been seriously messed up in the head from serving in the army and war. to all who are going keep your head up get done and get back to your family. to all who have been consider yourself lucky to have made it out in one price or without being wrongly convicted of a crime inside walnut grove just because they can take your freedom....... family first. never forget this phrase

Was in Walnut Grove Rid program also, I was 18 worse part of my life so far they push you to your limit. Poor kid was raped durning my stay. They play favs to some of the inmates in got to stay out of there cells but hell we were locked down a lot. Eating was bad they would rush you some days we only ate for 30 sec. But I made it in never went back to prison. Family man now.
